Balalaika’s occupation does not make her as…popular in the Crescent City. She specializes in embalming dragons and beastclan alike if they so wish it, and organizes funeral events for those who have passed. It’s not the most gossamer line of work, but it suits her just fine when the dead doesn’t talk back – makes for fine company.
Her past is a sad one, with her entire family slain by an uncle overcome by the grief of losing his family. He thought getting back at his sister and her family for what he felt was an unjust fate for himself would bring him peace. Only because Balalaika was well-hidden, she was spared by her uncle’s cruelty, but the death she saw had haunted her for most of her lifetime. Rather than let death cause her constant fear and despair, she decided to work alongside it and turned to her present occupation.
With the living, others describe her as aloof, bitter, and sharp tongued. Yet, for those that suffer the most from death, she is able to best talk with them, being a voice of reason and a kindred spirit amidst suffering.
