"Momma, will I be as beautiful as you one day?" A small voice murmured, hardly a whisper, and obviously quivering as she spoke. A small, orange dragon peered up with brown eyes, full of curiosity and fear. She wasn't the cutest baby, and she knew it, as a few of the other dragons had picked on her and made fun without hesitation.

Flaira was surprised by the question, looking down at her daughter for a moment, "Darling," she began, sitting down on her hind legs. "You are already more beautiful than you could ever imagine, and when you are older, you will find that even the sun will grovel at your knees for your beauty." She spoke softly to her daughter, touching her cheek gently with her front paw, careful of her claws. She leaned over, gently dropping a Daisy Lei around the young dragons neck. "That belonged to my mother, and I give it to you now. It is a symbol of beauty, and poise, and freedom." She murmured, smiling brightly.

Blista made a noise of happiness, almost a chirp, that echoed through the cave. She curled up against the warmth of her mother's stomach, enjoying the calm and peacefulness of the day. She felt beautiful now, with reassurance from her mother, and would hold onto the Lei until the day she died.


A year had passed since that day, and much had happened. Blista was full grown now, more beautiful than she could have ever imagined. But her parents never got to see it, as their land had been attacked by dragons from the outskirts of the Lands. They had told her to fly, fly far away. And so she had, not knowing that would be the last she ever saw of them. Blista let out a heavy sigh, curling her talons in the dirt below her, staring down at the Lei around her neck. "I miss you, mother. I truly miss you." She whispered as she peered up to the stars, feeling empty and hollow. The moon shimmered brightly above, as if to say, "We are still here, Blista. Still watching over you, always...."

Blista smiled slightly, nodding her head. "Perhaps you are still up there, looking at me. I hope I have made you proud, and I hope that I will continue to do so. Rest easy, parents. I love you." She murmured, curling up in the dirt. For a moment, she could feel warmth besides her, as though her mother was beside her once more, then it was gone as quickly as it had arrived. With that feeling resting in her chest, she dozed off, happy once more.
