A note from Mother

"I am sure I will have many children in my time, I am young and fruitful, but you will always be my very first. There's something special about a first. The way my heart felt when you come free of your egg, looking into your eyes that took in this new world as you took your first breaths and then-- well, then I realized you were more like your father than I at first anticipated. A glittery bit of broken stone caught your eye and never let it go. Your first steps were to that glittery stone and your first smile was not as me, or your father, or the sky above, or trees that sang in celebration of your birth. No, no... it was for the little rock. You pulled it to you and I don't think you understood why, you were just born you hardly understood value, but it was your first, and certainly not your last, thing hoarded. Don't fret, little dear, I wouldn't dream of sending you off to your new home without it."
