PARA
The sun beat down on her scales, warming them and sending the young Skydancer into a soft bliss. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in as the wind blew gently around her, the grass tickling her neck. She looked at the soft clouds that passed her by, feeling the serenity of the moment. Para was usually the only Dragon that could be found in the open fields. Hiding in the woods was never her cup of tea. It was too beautiful out in the valley to allow the sun to be blocked out by the thick canopy of the forest. She looked towards the forest at that moment to see a black Pearlcatcher coming towards her. She felt a smile on her face, happy to see her mate coming towards her. “How come I always know where to find you?” Tartys asked, tilting her head. “Oh, come now. I can’t be that predictable, can I?” Para asked, rubbing her wing on Tartys’ wings. They embraced and together started back towards the Clan’s main village. |
Para was born within this Clan, always knowing love and happiness from her parents, Thriin and Laurel. She was always the most rambunctious one of the Welps, but she was also the most cautious. She was careful in her ways and was very soft with the tongue. She was polite, but always seem to have a way with words. She was able to always talk herself into and out of things quite easily. This baffled her parents, for they felt as though she would twist their own words and use them against them. This would make them laugh sometimes, knowing that their daughter was very clever. Para grew up in a loving home, and grew to have many friends. Almost every Dragon in the Clan liked her and always wanted to be around her. This would often times cause some confusing feelings for her.
She began to realize that her interest in Dragons always ended up being with female Dragons. As a young Dragon, this would leave her worried that she wasn’t normal, and would go into the forest to hopefully find some comfort in her thoughts. The forest would make her even more anxious, for everything seemed dark and close. She would get more stressed and would feel eyes that judged her. That was when she found her valley. This valley was open and the air breathed freely here. She enjoyed this area and could feel her stress melt away. This was her place of sanctuary.
From that day on, she ventured to her little Valley, where she could be herself and try to figure out her strange feelings. These feelings never bothered her, but she wasn’t sure what to make of them. They made her feel anxious, but excited at the same time. It was another reason why she was unique. She didn’t share the same feelings as all her friends did. Everyday she would go to this valley to think, but one day would change her life forever.
As she came to her valley, she suddenly stopped and stared a black Dragon that stood in the middle. This Pearlcatcher was gorgeous; the sun causing her black feathers to look deep purple in the light. She looked up at the sky with her eyes closed and her pearl held tight against her chest. Para walked out carefully, but her curiousty made her move much too quickly and she ended up nearly tripping.
The Pearlcatcher looked at her and gasped, “Para! I’m sorry, I didn’t know you came here too.” The Pearlcatcher, a female Dragon that had lived with the Clan for a while, gasped.
“Tartys. It’s okay.” Para said. Para looked at her, confused as to why, today, of all days, she was taking a greater notice in Tartys. Was it the sun? Or was it because of something else?
“You like it here too?” Tartys asked.
Para nodded, “Oh yes. It’s very relaxing.”
The two started to talk about their love for the valley, and as the day grew on, they began to realize how much they had in common. As this happened, they began to come every day to speak to each other. These occurrences grew more and more, until they spent everyday together. These meetings grew to be so much more, and as Para realized her feelings for Tartys, she started to understand herself as well.
Para was always a Dragon who didn’t back down from who she was, and that was never going to change. Para is a young Dragon with the willpower to bring the Clan and herself to a whole new height. The years of Para are just beginning.
