The first Fishspine Tunnelers evolved from a small group of spiral dragons who left their home to create a new life for themselves after hearing rumors of the Tidelord’s prophesies. Drawn to seek out answers, the group set out for the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Unfamiliar with the territory, the group quickly found themselves creating alliances with a nearby Maren clan. Though cautious, the clan could see the the group was sincere, leading them to take the serpentine dragons under their fins. Eager to learn more, the spirals were more than happy to follow the tutelage of the Maren. Years passed, and the first spirals reason for immigrating was long forgotten, leaving even the Maren to forget their humble beginnings. Later generations of these unique dragons easily adapted to life in the sea, setting out on their own to claim a place for themselves within the Fishspine Reef. To this day, many Fishspine Tunnelers call the Maren friend and still cultivate the alliance their ancestors built.

Originating from the Fishspine Reef, these spirals are a strange lot. Using their short wings, they glide through the water navigating even the most difficult areas of the reef with ease. After generations of adapting to life in the sea, they are much more graceful in the water than in the sky or on land. Because of this, many Fishspine Tunnelers tend to feel awkward, uncomfortable, or just plain wrong when leaving their ocean home. Due to the way their muscles have evolved for swimming, many Fishspine Tunnelers can’t fly, or even glide more than a few feet unless the wind catches them just right. Some say it’s the curse they bare for abandoning the Windsinger all those years ago.Their coloration and markings easily conceal and camouflage them while in the sea, but often mark them as an easy target if they are seen elsewhere. Most Tunnelers refuse to leave the Sea of a Thousand Currents for this reason alone.

Adept fishers and treasure hunters, these sporadic dragons easily keep themselves busy. With the wreckage that rests at the bottom of the reef, Fishspine Tunnelers can always find something to do. Whether it’s pulling up interesting artifacts, searching for sparkly treasures, or hunting the strange creatures that call the remains home, these dragons find ways to keep themselves entertained while contributing to their Lair. On the off chance a Tunneler becomes bored, they have been known to eagerly throw themselves into new, exciting (and potentially dangerous) situations for the thrill of the experience. Though quite sporadic in their thoughts, Fishspine Tunnelers are creative problem solvers, and can easily come up with solutions to a myriad of problems, even if said solutions are rather unconventional.

Fishspine Tunnelers are known to make their lairs in abandoned wreckage, as they can easily tunneling through the cracks and crevices within. These ruins not only provide adequate shelter, but they also have many things for sleeping Tunnelers to wrap around so as not to get swept away by the currents. Many of these dragons are known to keep their own small hoards of trinkets and interesting objects hidden away from the rest of their clan in crevices. Although they often forget just where they hid them in the first place, leading to abandoned Fishspine Tunneler lairs often being troves of hidden treasures.
