"Endra." her mother says, scolding, blue eyes narrowed at her youngest daughter. The rest of the family are laughing and talking all at once; such is the way of their gatherings - with 8 full siblings, 13 half siblings, 15 aunts and uncles, and too many cousins to count, drunken duels and brawls are commonplace. Endra is the youngest, and her mother's eye is ever-watchful. "But mama, everyone else is going to the Fire Falls." the hatchling wheedles, green eyes imploring. Hyperion, her father, laughs aloud, and Raze's composure wavers; Endra squeals her victory and scampers off to trail the older children.

She is challenged to her first duel by her elder sister Noctis, no less. The fight is bloody, but Endra kicks dust into her sister's eyes and is victorious.

One early autumn morning, she leaves her clan, and does not return. She sets out alone, for her siblings have all left the nest, and her parents are older now; they will bring no more hatchlings into this world. Her mother coughs at night, a rattling sound, and Endra knows in her heart the Gladekeeper is calling her mother home (no matter if mama was born in the Shifting Expanse). It is a long flight across the Wild Sea to the shores of Light, but Endra has all of the time in the world, and nothing to weigh her down. The politics are stuffy, and the land is arid, but she duels and is, surprisingly, the victor; more often than not. This earns her a name for herself, and she courts and is courted by many.
