When Quartz was born, he was a normal Imperial. Average in almost every way. It didn't seem to bother him. He was a happy Imperial. He played with the others throughout the lair. He was extremely glad to be where he was at the moment. Until ... until he had accidentally wandered into a place that he shouldn't have at the moment. The woods were dark, terrifying yet he was drawn to them as if they had attached themselves to his mind. They were calling, craving, TELLING him that he had to visit. They were woods that outlined the Water territory. He didn't want to go, but he had to go. It was a weird feeling. When he stepped a paw into the woods, something changed. The brambles and tendrils of the forest curled and moved as some enveloped him. He tried to get away. Tried to run. They had him cornered and stuck. The pierced his skin and his wings before Quartz had lost consciousness.

When he awoke, the Imperial heard mumbling around him. Opening his slightly darkened blue eyes, he noticed that dragons were staring at him. They flinched and took a few steps backwards as he got up before shaking. His body ached and he winced as the brambles and tendrils had become part of him. He heard their whispering. He wasn't a monster. He wasn't a monster ... He had been shadetouched. It was something that he had refused to believe. But, he was treated different than the others now. They would ignore him or leave him alone. Nobody wanted to play with him. His own parents even seemed to be afraid of him anymore. Quartz grew spiteful and rage filled through him as he sat at the highest den of the territory. He was the same person, but he wasn't as his personality morphed into something twisted.

He would lash out at others that tried to talk to him. If they wouldn't talk to him before, they wouldn't talk to him now. His claws had sharpened considerably, and they were weapons that were valuable and important to him. He started to see himself better than the others. A better dragon that didn't need the interaction of those below him. Quartz was a dragon that started to see the bright side of being shadetouched. He was starting to enjoy it. The others noticed. He had become corrupted. The others of his home clan knew he needed to leave. They talked amongst themselves to plan a way to get him to leave. Quartz was clever. He knew their plan. The dragon was able to sneak out at night to walk around himself while others slept. He found that very little sleep was needed of him now. He listened onto their plan grinning as they thought they could run him out. He went back to his cave.

The next day he decided to leave. The shadetouched part of his mind was pulling him to leave the clan. He had things to do. The dragon left before anybody knew he had disappeared. Quartz wandered throughout the lands doing the bidding of The Shade. He found his cleverness to be useful when he had to find certain dragons to give to The Shade. He had no problem with wooing all that he deemed fit for his games and plays. Quartz found fun in trying to coerce others to think of him as non-threatening. The look of horror on their faces as he gave them to The Shade was always the best part of the job. It wasn't as if he did this often though. Only when the voices got too loud. Otherwise, he was content to walk the lands of Sornieth using his strengths for himself.
