It wasn't her fault.

It was her parents that had angered the witch, not her. But she took to punishment. All it took was a curse, a single amalgamation of words to bind her to the very stones that grew in her home.

Her parents had disregarded the curse as empty threat. After all, their daughter was fine, beautiful, wondrous swirls of peachy pink, her wings, a ripple like the sea reflecting the sunset clouds. But as she grew older, it changed.

It began with a single scale, glittering like a gemstone. They applauded her for it. It was beautiful. Then there was another. And another. It started at her tail, the tip becoming hard and lifeless. Her parents grew scared. It was true. She was cursed.

They tried all kinds of remedies, but it only grew worse. It spread up her tail to her hind legs, which grew heavy and stiff. She started hearing whispers from her parents when they thought she was asleep.

Her parents tried what they could. It crawled it's way up her back, weighted down her wings, crowed up her fingers and neck, chocked her from the inside.

It was the third day of summer when her mother came in to talk to her. To tell her that nothing was working. It was the third day of summer when crystalline tears rolled down her cheeks, leaving trails of shimmering crystal. It was the third day of summer when her parents reached down to wipe her tears, only to find that they were cursed themselves.
