Maiya

Maiya is a thief, but not any normal one. She steals powers, magics, skills from other dragons and wields them as her own. This isn't a hatched ability, nor one gained through connection to a deity but one granted through twisted fate. The forbidden portal opens to another dimension, a land of mystery and intrigue and ultimately one that is very alien to Sornieth. Her team was to explore it, and so they geared up and dived into this foreign world.

Many did not survive. The land the portal bled into was hostile and vicious. Moreover it "took" the corpses and melded them with the wildlife. The "mini-emperors" are a horror baked deeply into Maiya's mind and she recalls them even now, with a look of dread in her eyes. She remembers running across the echoing landscape to a place resembling a throne room. If a throne was made of iridescent cascading rock and bones... Nevertheless when she arrived in this "room" it seemed so very familiar- yet distant. Like a memory from an ancestor rather than one of her own.

She tells you now that her decision was stupid, that even you see it was such. She asserts however that at the time the room had a tantalizing hold over her. She was so enthralled to it that any decision she made... She questions if it was even her own. Maiya neared the throne and was compelled to touch it, the fascinating rippling of solid rock that flowed like water was so mesmerizing. As her hand touched it everything changed. A bright and painful white noise encapsulated her, changed her.

She didn't recall blanking out but she must have because when she came to she was fallen beneath the throne. Or did she? She could feel and experience whispers of the far past, and of the far future. Simultaneously and completely, all at once. The "now" was different and difficult to grasp. Is that way even now.

Maiya inherited a very unusual gift from this experience and that gift is the act of "absorbing". She can absorb the skills, memories and knowledge of something in particular. This allows her to quickly master otherwise complicated trainings and survive the most dangerous of situations she finds herself in.

Over time though, the more she "stole" skills from other dragons the more she struggles to feel like herself, a being of the Now. Additionally cracks of time and space thieving her away formed on her body and wings. These are weak spots, as they pain her. The more of them that appear the more difficult it is for Maiya to care for herself.

She came to the Isles hopeful that she was shade-touched and that since the Isles eats shade she would be cured of her condition. This did not come to be, as alien magic is not inherently tied to shade magic. Maiya was too weak to leave, her journey to the Isles difficult and painful. She remains in the Healing District as a long-term patient, being given soothing ointments and medicines for her sufferings. In exchange she tells the doctors of what futures and histories she sees in the galaxies, but is it often hard to make sense of her musings. It emerges more as gibberish than coherent thoughts...
