Serpent is actually a maren agent hiding in Saltspray Village. A long time ago the dragon dubbed Leviathan devastated her home and killed many of the maren living there. Her village is actively seeking revenge, and sent Serpent to check if the rumors of him living in Saltspray were true. They were.

She now watches the chieftan like a hawk. She has meetings with her kinsmen in a secret cave as they discuss how they plan to get him alone near the sea (Lev is very wary of the ocean and refuses to go near it anymore).

Unfortunately Serpent slowly comes to appreciate the old dragon, he is gruff and yet there is a subtle kindness to him. He seems to legitimately love his new village despite trying to appear indifferent. Serpent struggles with wanting vengeance for a truly heinous crime, but her target is slowly trying to redeem himself.
