Biography
Dirofilaria immitis,
the heartworm or dog heartworm,
is a parasitic roundworm that is spread from host to host through the bites of mosquitoes.
The heartworm is a type of filarial worm, a small thread-like worm, that causes filariasis. The definitive host is the dog, but it can also infect cats, wolves, coyotes, foxes, and other animals, such as ferrets, sea lions and even, under very rare circumstances, humans. The parasite is commonly called "heartworm"; however, adults often reside in the pulmonary arterial system (lung arteries), as well as the heart, and a major effect on the health for the animal is a manifestation of damage to the lung vessels and tissues. Occasionally, adult heartworms migrate to the right heart and even the great veins in heavy infections. Heartworm infection may result in serious disease for the host, with death typically as the result of congestive heart failure.

It is a beautifull day at (place name here), your clan is enjoying the sun while following their daily activities. Suddenly, someone notices the sound of distant singing and shortly after the source of it: a shimmering red spiral with a grey-ish crackle pattern is approaching your lair, endlessly curling and uncurling her blood-stained and bandage-wrapped body in the air, all the way cheerfully singing
" Ring-a-round the rosie,
A pocket full of posies,
Ashes! Ashes!
We all fall down!“
She swoops down as if she wants to land amidst your clan, but changes her mind mid-flight and just flies in constant circles and spirals over the heads of your dragons, some of which watch her in confusion.
“Did you know that Dirofilaria immitis, the dog heartworm, can grow up to 50cm in lenght?“ she asks while flying a looping “It is a parasitic roundworm that is spread from host to host through the bites of mosquitoes! AND it is named just like me! Isn´t that fantastic?!“ The members of your clan begin to wonder what she is even doing here and how she manages to not tie herself in a knot. “There are so many beautyfull parasites out there, and soo many beautyfull diseases, all thanks to our mother!“ She spirals up into the sky, the sunlight sparkling on her crystal-like body, folds up her wings and swoops down again, unfolding them only a couple of meters away from the ground to stop her free fall.
“Take this, so all of you can see the beauty of plague and decay!“ She drops a canvas bag she has been carrying which lands right on the back of one of your dragons, turns one last looping and flies away, once again cheerfully singing
“Ring-a-ring-a-roses,
A pocket full of posies;
Hush! Hush! Hush! Hush!
We've all tumbled down!“
The bag is soaked with some unknown liquid, twitches occasionally as something inside of it struggles to get free and reeks of death and decay. Disgusted, the dragon shakes it off it´s back and desperately tries to wipe the liquid off of their scales, but with only little succes. Nobody really dares to get close to the package she left, but you can´t just leave it there, as it´s smell gets worse with every minute it´s sitting in the burning sun. Finally, one brave dragon carefully unties the knot and opens the sack...
