He had been born in the blacksand, the largest egg of the clutch. As his claws broke through the shell, snout poking through, his parents were overjoyed. He was a healthy youngling, large in size with a strength to him that the Wastes would require. Like all of them, he shared their orange eyes. The hatchling was named Cinerus, his scales and mane dark as soot and obsidian, and he grew as the fires did; wildly. The siblings would wrestle in the sand, but he remained undefeated time after time-- leaving his brothers and sisters with the scratches and marks of their tussling.
