Biography
Eudialyte Philosopher |
______________________________________________________________________
|
- Old warrior that turned to a (questionably) quiet life of a teacher. - Good at teaching, hopeless with hatchlings. - In love with Sunstone, very insistently trying to convince her that he is too old for her (unsuccessfully). - Will never forgive whoever introduced the nickname "Grumpy vampire" that a hatchling once called him - to the general public. - He will never believe Sun was the one who did it either. Sexuality: Heterosexual Personality: Grumpy vampire(c) Likes: Teaching, Drinking, Some peace and quiet, thank you very much. Dislikes: Hatchlings Familiar: None Teaching was something he was good at. A quiet life of a philosopher - fancy word for a wise old man, really - appealed to him after the years he spent earning his living with tooth and claw instead of his mind. There were indeed many words of wisdom he could put down on paper after all that he had seen and done, if he had the talent for the written word. Teaching was all he could do to pass it on. He didn't really have a set discipline. He could talk about almost anything, which made him an ideal substitute for groups of young mages or warriors or hunters, when a proper mentor was running late or absent. He enjoyed fighters in training the most, remembering his own old days with a sharp pang of nostalgia, as well as a quiet satisfaction of an old warrior who made it through his adventures alive and had enough. They had such a long way to go... Some had talent, skills and a promising future. Others had a much shorter life ahead of them. It was the way of life, he learned long ago not to get upset about it. He saw her for the first time when she just came to the clan, a small, shy hatchling hiding under a golden wing of her father, and later - when she returned from her training in the Plague lands of her mother's clan. Strong and capable and young - and smart enough not to get arrogant and keep learning. She was one of the promising ones. He'd spoken to her a few times, while supervising her training group. He enjoyed it, and could see she did too. Time passed. He heard she started teaching the basics to the youngest future warriors - he never got to see, busy with the surprisingly large group of mage apprentices that Celestite had a hard time finding mentors for. Then there was Ametrine - Eudialyte wondered how the hell the boy managed to collect in him all the character flaws that Citrine and Ximena's lineage could possibly have. None of their other kids were in any way like the pretentious brat, especially the firstborn sisters. Especially Sunstone. Trying to talk sense into the annoying Pearlcatcher seemed pointless, but Eudialyte tried anyway. At the very least he owed it to the family. He was busy enough, along with other elders of the clan, trying to make the kid commit to something, that he completely missed the warning bells when Anyolite asked him to help with supervising a training group of youngsters with their basic trainer. He really should've paid attention. Well, on the (relatively) good side, he got to work alongside Sunstone (Plaguebringer, when has she grown like that?! He felt so old). On the undoubtedly bad side, it escaped his mind that she taught the youngest - the very youngest dragons. They were practically hatchlings. It was a disaster. The only thing that held him from backing away from the training arena and never showing his face there again (after ripping the horns off Anyolite's head, of course), was the look on Sunstone's face. Was she... happy to see him? Against his better judgement, he stayed. It did not get better. The little monsters were as unmanageable as a flock of Hainu puppies (yes, that was also an experience he never wished to relieve again), and by the time some barely-grown menace has tried to climb him to see better, Eudialyte was seriously considering to drop the facade of a peaceful sage and give them a piece of his mind and a good spanking. And maybe become a hermit afterwards, but he wasn't sure there were any secluded caves that were close enough to a good bar. During a brief reprieve from torture, when the little engines of destruction were watching in awe as Azurite practiced in her spectacular gold Light Elite armour, Eudialite hid at the top of the arena stalls with his co-teacher. "I can't take this anymore!", he hissed to Sunstone (who looked disgustingly happy in his opinion), momentarily forgetting any reservations he might've had over his frustration, "This is... That one called me a grumpy vampire! How do you even tolerate it?!" Sunstone laughed, turning to look him in the eye: "It's not so bad, once you get used to them. They're not deliberately trying to make your life hell, you know. They're easily excited, and they like you. They're just kids." He lowered his head rather apologetically. "I just... Hate kids", he mumbled. His head whipped up at the gentle touch of a bright red tuft of tail fur to his cheek. "Good thing I'm not a kid anymore then, right?" Even if he were staring for an embarrassingly long time with a rather stupid facial expression (which he absolutely wasn't), he could absolutely be forgiven. Inspired by PaperCrow. |
