Emmyth is the only offspring of a pair of scholars who spent the vast majority of their time in the great crystal library of Dymunda. As one of the last crystal mages in her family, her mother did her best to keep Emmyth away from anyone who might abuse Emmyth's skills, when she remembered that she had a daughter, that is.

Of course, they didn't realize her aptitude for manipulating crystals until they had convinced her to stop having her face in a book all the time, else she become nearsighted. Well, she decided to pick up her grandparents' skills in making crystal jewelry to "give her eyes a break" only for it to have similar strains on her eyes. Alas, she became nearsighted. Emmyth isn't too bothered by this. She claims it was an inevitable thing.

Emmyth is rather socially awkward. The bulk of her knowledge on how to interact with others was based on what she had read in a book. Before she was convinced to start traveling, if asked, she would admit that her only friends are books.

Granny Tea was rather determined to change this fact and started the process of Emmyth getting out and seeing the world, complete with a time mage and an pair of guards who may very well be in a gay relationship with each other, but she's uncertain as to how to confirm this and didn't want to pry. After all, her only concept on the matter was to ask if they were married in which case the more studious of the two quickly denied.

For years she's been working on learning various languages, although she's not all that great at speaking them, it's hard to practice when you don't have any friends to practice with, and is only decent at reading and writing them. She is, however, really good at sign language as her childhood heroes are both very fluent with it. With her recent travels, it has become readily apparent that she needs to practice.

Emmyth found the Book of Hands and every time she messes with it, she has that itching feeling that something, dark and unseen, lurking just over her shoulder, is waiting to pull her into its pages.
