Once a young talented understudy of a prominent group of seers, disaster struck when a shade infection wiped out all but the vulnerable Imperial. With the last of their life force the elders shielded him from the brunt of the spells, instead subjected to terrifying and incomprehensible visions that overwhelmed him and took his sight.

When Balthazar awoke, he was alone and in the dark, forced to wander his way out of the sanctuary and relive his trauma all over again. He gradually made his way to the surface, where he adapted to life without vision and wandered without purpose, making money off his talents as a Seer, his abilities still intact, although shadetainted. He keeps this knowledge to himself, convinced he can control it.

Balthazar found himself drawn to Clan Adamahe by a vision, and was taken in by Nettle and Sorrow to use his talent for their own end. He soon became a mate of theirs, although he keeps himself emotionally withdrawn, uncomfortably aware of a presence warning him not to get too close.

After Nicodemus' subsequent "treason" & punishment by being turned into a feral Gaoler, Balthazar is starting to listen more to the odd presence in his head, finding it often tells him things that he wasn't able to know before. People's true emotions, thoughts, secrets..it interests him to no end, satisfying the curiosity left wanting by his lost ability to read without braille. It tells him not to trust others, as they'll inevitably betray him, like Sorrow did to Nicodemus, that Nettle will eventually do so to him. Balthazar is beginning to believe it..
