Biography

Lore :
Since the dawn of time children have played a variety of hiding games, but lots of them are variations of good old fashioned Hide and Seek. This is also true of dragon youth. The various regions of Sornieth had the opportunity for a vast array of hiding places that were advantageous for different dragons. Every region had those that excelled in the game. Whether it be the pink colors in The Starfall Isles, the greens in The Viridian Labyrinth, or the deep blues of The Sea of a Thousand Currents.

In The Southern Icefields, there were colors that could easily blend in with the Icy crags. Out of all the breeds, the Spirals came up with a brilliant hiding place that no other breed of dragon had a clue about. It was their secret spot, a quiet spot where they could play games or read the Frigid Floes Gazette! or a good book. This group of Spirals stayed in their secret hideout so much, they grew sensitive to the light of day. They ended up forming a clan of their own, deep beneath the snow. They worked out how to “swim” through the snow, which changed the musculature of their wings, and now they can no longer fly.

Huge caverns were discovered where they gathered socially. All of the travel routes, deep tunnels under the ice and snow, allowed for traffic going both ways. Even the best hunting routes were made handy. The hunting party would follow the main trail and then snake off into their own side tunnel. They would silently wait under the snow, perhaps chewing on a Sapphire or some Cobalt while they waited. Then they would feel the vibration of A beast walking above them. The trap was set and seeing no disturbance in the snow, prey carelessly walked into a deep crevice where the Spiral would strike. Here, they butchered the meat and disposed of the waste outside of the used funnel. A new trap would be set for the next wave of hunters. The meat, along with any insects or necessary minerals found, would be pulled by a sled with 4 Spirals tethered in the front and any others helping to push from the back, or carry whatever misc. items that they needed.

An old dragon by the name of Fig knew an age old secret, forgotten by most, that he shared with his community. There were minerals, plants and gemstones that could alter a Spiral’s tertiary color. He advised the hunters and gatherers of which minerals, plants and gems he needed and shared his knowledge of making the tasty paste that they came to view as a snack. They became a staple of their diet and the colors would become more vivid when passed on from parents. Although Fig was never able to induce green, brown or yellow tertiaries there are some Spirals that keep trying to find just the right combinations. But the several color schemes they had were plenty for the limited community. And with each generation the colors become a great way to separate into teams to play a game or to split up chores.

The colors also led to attraction of mates in the same color ranges as these were the other dragons they had the most contact with. At times, attraction was to another color but those nests were not successful.. And so the natural team selection continues between “purple” “blue” “red” and “pink”. After all, a little competition is good for the community. More than for games, each color range has a very specific job within the pack. Red stripes are the hunters. They strike quick and true. Blue stripes are the ones that gather water and certain minerals and can often be seen “flying through” the underground lake. Pink Stripe dragons are the collectors of herbs and insects. They also will collect fruits, if any make it into the basket. And the Purple Stripes keep the community lodging area, cooking area clean and organize the games.

The Snow Snake has become something of a legend as they are rarely seen by others. They are very social among their species but prefer not to have another species find their special home. Snow Snakes flock to the underground lair from all regions as the true legend is passed on from generation to generation among the Snow Snakes.
