Just as the healers and priests must swear faith to their respective deities and oaths, scholars like Beard are bound to defend the marketplace of ideas. Beard is an ardent and steadfast defender of this sentiment, believing that those whom crusade for censorship in the name of the truth only defend their version of it. As such, he goes to great lengths constantly trying to disprove the status quo, the state sponsored societal indoctrination. He questions everything, heeding no traditional and established mores and institutions. This morally forthright and predilection for the noble bright had him cast out of the tangled woods, which made no discernible difference to him as he grew use to being a pariah among all. As a deliberately chargeless Guardian, he was rejected by his own breed out of an inability to conform to filial and racial expectations. If the aforementioned quandaries weren't all enough, his constant lonesome proved to spoil his social development, causing any potential for relationships to cease. As he secluded himself to the long shadows cast by dim candlelight, he substitutes any so called necessity of socialisation with the characters of his imagination and the fiction he immerses himself in. Delighting in social revelry by proxy, without his awkward inevitable miscues alienating others; writer and reader, retroactively interacting. Motivated by his fantasies, he throws himself into his work, vowing to create a world of his own. Through careful study and application, he eventually proved himself an adept inventor worthy of the Guild. His silent and defensive nature, cultivated through repeated rejections, obscure a core of passivity, similarly accreted yet diametrically opposed to his dismissive exterior. His secret straining for approval is buried deep within him. A treacherous hope within underneath casings of bitterness. Back up |
