Nobody knows entirely why or how Xato arrived at Safe Haven, but he had been brought by the very dangerous Osto and no one dare push too many questions. In fact for a very long time Osto wouldn't let anyone too close to the child, lending to Xato's current lack of formal schooling. However, as time went on, the residents of Safe Haven slowly got to know the boy, though he remained attached to the dangerous half tundra's side. It was clear the two viewed each other as close to family as either had known in a long while.

Now that he's an adult, much like Osto, Safe Haven has accepted him entirely as one of their own. Along with his mentor, Xato pays for his space in the clan as a hunter and scout, sniffing out threats long before they reach the Mere. He is an excellent fighter, using his quick thinking and reflexes to make up for his lack of pure might. He's usually quite smart about what he hunts, but when it comes to defending his clanmates he can be a bit headstrong. An example of this is when he lost his tail fighting an out of control Wraith in order to defend Osto. It should be noted that the tail did eventually grow back... sort of. The parasite known as Chimaera took it's place.

Although he is well past the age where a young dragon begins to desire a mate, Xato has never felt this urge. In fact he hardly seems to be aware of the opposite sex at all. Currently he's more focused on questioning his origins, though the only dragon with any idea of his previous family has been quite tight lipped.

personality.
Xato is typically quiet and contemplative, a polar opposite of his mentor's aggressive and blunt nature. His curiosity has gotten him into more troubles than he can count, including the metamorphosis of his body. Although writing is difficult for him, he does his best to keep a journal of the things he's found and discovered, though half of it is scribbles and drawings that would only make sense to him. Due to his upbringing, that more contemplative nature is matched by a certain intensity and focus undercut with a predatory air of danger.

He has since become of two minds warring in one body. Chimera, the snake that has since replaced his tail like a parasite, is much more devious than Xato has ever been comfortable with and not likely to share his plans with his host. Even when their goals seem to align, Chimaera's willingness to aid Xato only furthers the dragon's paranoia and mistrust. The fact that the serpentine parasite has caused Osto to view Xato as unreliable just exacerbates the issue.

-Xato wears a coat with a long tail piece in an effort to hide Chimaera when they're outside the Mere.
-It is believed that Xato is possibly on the ace/aro spectrum do to his disinterest in finding a mate, though how far this goes has yet to be determined.
-He looks to Osto as a father figure and mentor, but does not see him as a dad.
-Sleeps outside with Osto rather than inside the inn like most of the permanent residents of Safe Haven. This is voluntary and he has been noted in saying that sleeping indoors feels unnatural, like sleeping in a cage.
-Lost his tail fighting Fia's Wraith. Although it technically wasn't intentional, and he isn't as openly aggressive towards the creature as Osto, he still gives him a wide birth.
-He can't write well but carries a journal written in scribbles that only he understands fully. While he isn't stupid by any means, he lacks a technical education for things like mathematics and writing. He can read some, but it is believed he suffers from dyslexia.
-Is unsure why how a light sprite found its way deep into Shadow territory but Flicker has been following him since he was a youngling, offering a light in the darkness.
-Besides Osto, Frost is one of the few dragons Xato feels entirely comfortable around due to their frequent scouting trips together. One might even call them best friends.
-Managed to send a message to his birth clan once... he's still holding up hope they may one day choose to respond.
