As the legend goes, a Wind dragon will stand from the ruins of her homeland and form a new following of dragons. She will rise from the ashes and blow life into the skeletons littering her previous home. From this, a mate of same heart will awaken and they will fly far, far away till they reach the chosen land... and thus, Nyx and Aard were born to protect their clan. Though, something went wrong during Nyx's uprising. Still a little was left on her of the enemy that destroyed what she once called home.
The Shade. |
Aard always found her fascination with dark magic and the unknown as strange, though he paid no mind as long as she was happy. In secret away from her mate, she'd go far off and try out different spells to call on and strengthen her own Shade. Many hexes and curses were tried and failed, though after a while she managed to call it to her after her own will. The ritual to turn her into a fully fledged Shade-inflicted dragon was ready to be performed, but she needed assistance. Therefore went the clan's most occulted dragons with her; Skygge, Citrine and Sadist.
The ritual didn't go well. Sadist was horrendously traumatised and riddled with neverending blisters and burns, Skygge lost her sight and could only speak in rhymes so forth and both Nyx and Citrine died a terrible death. Neither of the two survivors dared speak about what happened the night of their deaths, and Aard was devastated. What could he do all alone? He had to stay strong for his clan, and continued to lead them all. The clan felt lost and empty by the loss of the clan founder, and wouldn't work. The winter the year of their deaths was terrible. Famine and sickness ravaged the lair, and rations were small. Only a handful of dragons stayed.
Aard turned to the Windsinger and prayed for his lover to come back. Through many countless attempts, he gave up and tried to find someone new to help him. Therefore he met Alexandrite, who was quickly dubbed as the new matriarch. She was well liked, and the clan soon became a better place. Aard hadn't told her what happened to the last matriarch, fearing she'd think she was nothing but a replacement. As if Nyx knew this, she arose from her grave one silent night and wandered wounded and tired back to the lair, unbeknownst of Alexandrite. She was furious once she saw the Imperial with her mate. A fight between them broke out, with Alexandrite not even knowing who this strange yet powerful Fae was.
Aard quickly pulled the two apart. He was still in a state of shock over seeing his deceased mate back to life, but explained what had happened. Nyx also needed to tell what actually happened the day of her death. It was hard, but after a while they all started accepting what had happened, and worked to fix both the relationship between the three of them and the clan's lack of proper leadership. They all eventually grew closer together as they worked, side by side, to restore what greatness was lost. Thus, Nyx got rid of her Shade as Alexandrite and Aard pulled her through her problems.
The trio led the clan together under the Windsinger for ages. Everyone seemed to thrill under the leadership. Though, the wind's were changing. No, they were gone. Transportation became a challenge for the couriers and alike living in the lair. This worried the clan leaders. Through a series of council meetings, they collectively agreed to move to new territory due to the circumstances. Nyx personally disagreed with the move, and said she would step down once they settled down in Dragonhome. Aard and Alexandrite would step down as well, but stay within the council.
The other leaders told Nyx to find a new heir for the lair, and thus on her quest she met Sylvia. Something about her made her seem like the leader the clan needed and deserved. The Guardian went with Nyx back to the lair, and was met with a warm welcome... but not without some doubt. A total stranger taking over the leadership of the clan? It didn't seem wise... but Nyx knew what she was doing.
Nyx thrived for a long time, now reunited with her lover and managing the lair of many new and old faces. Something still stirred inside her, almost like a hand reaching out to her. Who's hand this might have been, she was not aware of... but she took it. Through a series of new rituals and encantations, she summoned this newfound power. To her surprise, it was not the Shade, but a deity of sorts. It's eyes were glowing as they stared at her wisely, almost waiting for something. Then it spoke to her.
"Have I already been forgotten by my own child?" it called out in a soothing yet booming voice. It shook it's many limbs and fins as Nyx hesitated. Who could this be? She was a child of the Windsinger, or at least so she thought. As if the creature before her could read her mind, she answered. "Why would a trickster god like him end the world to so rebuild it, my starlight?" It lifted Nyx up in it's magnificent arms, "You are of perfection, yet you reject yourself and your story. I am Silencia, the queen of destruction and silence."
Speechless, Nyx hesitated once again. How could she not have known her own mother?
"For what is the world without it?" She sighed, and lowered her many shoulders in melancholy. "It is nothing. No one exists without chaos yet they think their lives are undisturbed by it." The queen lowered Nyx down to the spectral floor they were standing on. The Fae hadn't even noticed reality had unraveled as they stood on nothing but voidfull blackness. Finally she had the courage to speak to her newfound mother. "Why do we not know of you? I don't want to reject my birthrights. We are one, yet I've always felt alone in your absence." |
The queen shrugged. "Dragonkind is foolish. The world depends on it's end, which many don't like despite its truth." She lowered her gigantic head down to Nyx' level and caught her eyes. "Perhaps that's why I am abondoned by my own kin."
Nyx looked up at her in worry. She obviously needed help to regain her pride. "Then what do you want me to do, as your last knowing child?" the Fae said as she gazed deeply into Silencias eyes. |
The queen turned away and looked deep into the void as she answered. "We must become one. I will lend my strength and endless wisdom to your if you lend me your form. If we are successful, a new dawn will come with all balance restored." She turned back to Nyx. "If not... dragonkind is doomed. Do you accept my offer, my starlight?" Once again she reached out to the Fae. It was now or never for the retired matriarch.
As they once again held hands, reality was quickly restored. Everything was back to normal. She was still in the temple, in the Shade dedicated room. Suddenly filled with rage, she destroyed and sabotaged the altar that once took her life. "Nevermore," she thought to herself, "will my own past follow me. A new age shall start." Out of the once mighty Shade altar, she built a new makeshift altar for Silencia and got to work.
Not to waste any time, Nyx redrew the runes needed for a regular Shade summoning, but altered to fit her new god. Just as she began chanting, the transformation started. Grotesque limbs grew out of nowhere and others disappeared completely. Her size quadrupled in mere minutes in a tremendously exhausting and painful way. Barely holding onto life as she closed down on the last verse, she opened her eyes. She screamed.
There was nothing to see yet all too much at once. Her new form and glimmering new eyes confused her. She stumbled around in the room before regaining control. A headache even started creeping up on her due to her vision changes. She had experienced drastic changes before. but this was quite a difficult one. |
The new form scared the lair. Many ran and fleed from the unknown monster emerging from the temple. Only Aard dared stay to find out what this abomination could be. What he didn't know, was that a voice in his head would tell him.
"Aard! It's me, Nyx! Please do not fear me, I come in peace." Dumbfounded by the voice, he flew up to her now gigantic face. Nyx explained to Aard what happened. She was still the same, but oh so different. He called the lair back and reassured them that it was Nyx. Many were relieved yet worried. Could she go mad of her newfound powers? |
