The Priest
(former head of the Guild of Warriors) GUILDLESS, disciple of Pestilence

Axel was once the head of the Guild of Warriors, the keepers of peace in the Quarantine Zone. They were effective community leaders as well as entrepreneurs of peace. They also responded to threats both within and outside the Zone’s boundaries. After the incident where Pestilence slaughtered thousands and became a mad plague goddess, Pestilence was flaunting her power, causing thousands to fall ill without a second thought, delighting in the chaos. Something had to be done. Axel took a small platoon of warriors on a mission to Pestilence’s isolated mountain to try to reason with her, and if not, contain her. The trek was long and difficult. Pestilence hindered them at every turn, sending mindless hoards of plague-riddled dragons to attack them and swarms of insects whose bites caused hallucinations so severe, that they could drive even the bravest of dragons to death. By the time the platoon had reached the mouth of Pestilence’s cave, the platoon had been halved in number by either the infectious bites of the plagued dragons or driven to death by the hallucinations of the insects. Pestilence barely had to spare a thought towards wiping out the rest of the platoon. To this day, neither Axel nor Pestilence is sure why Axel was spared, but he was. Pestilence instead tortured Axel, breaking his body and spirit down by disease, and then bringing him back from the brink of death. Eventually, Axel would say anything, do anything just for the pain to stop. Pestilence then dressed him in robes, gave him a plague companion in the form of a bird, and name him her priest. He was to deliver news for her, as a harbinger of plagues to come, and wishes that the members of the Quarantine Zone should meet lest the mad plague goddess’s wrath be unleashed. He fulfills this duty as well as he did in his previous position as a Warrior. He is Pestilence’s only confidant and ally. Nothing will come between him and his goddess. Ever.
