If you see a Gothic Fairy, you won’t for long! These rare and beautiful dragons are shy and quiet creatures, sleeping hidden away by day and active during the night. The majority of Gothic Fairies are Faes, but many other breeds have been spotted as well. Imperials are thought to be the rarest.

All Gothic Fairies are dark and striped, with contrasting colors of pink, purple, and teal butterfly wings. Their bellies have these brighter colors as well, with some dragons having a sparkle added to their bellies and horns.

Like moths, they are drawn to flickering lights, such of that of stars, candles, fireflies, and flashes of lightning. Arcane Gothic Fairies are attracted to twinkling stars. Just like the Starseer himself, they are mesmerized by the night sky and are always gazing upwards on a clear night. Most of them live in the Starwood Strand.

The Shadow variety enjoys basking in the moonlight. Although they prefer almost total darkness, the moon is the only light they will tolerate. Shadow Gothic Fairies are especially rare to see because they are usually hidden away if there is no full moon. Most of them are found in Wispwillow Grove.

Summer is the favorite time of year of Lightning Gothic Fairies, when lightning storms are frequent and fireflies are active. They like overcast skies and will fly towards flashes of lightning when a storm is overhead. Fireflies are a favorite treat of the insect eating breeds, as they believe the light consumed enhances their lightning magic. Any Gothic Fairies in The Shifting Expanse are most likely to be hidden away in Carrion Canyon.
