Tapetum is an Imperial born in the Sunbeam Ruins to a clan of Imperial scholars. Philosophy and learning didn't come all that easy to him, though, and it frustrated both himself and his family. His father begged him to find something to study, and Tapetum found himself searching the Ruins' libraries, desperate for something to call his own area of interest. He found books on metals and gems, and he became enamored with dragonkind's ability to bend and craft the land's most precious materials.

As soon as he was old enough to leave his homeland, Tapetum set out on his way towards the Ashfall Waste, determined to start working in the mines until he had earned his place. He worked day and night, proving to his clan that he was ready to take up an apprenticeship. Once it was clear that his skills surpassed those of his teacher's, he was driven off by him in fear that he may one day usurp him.

Fortunately, Tapetum quickly found another clan in need of a new metalurgist after the Flamecaller purged this clan of the majority of its members. Now Tapetum works daily to forge the metal mined by the clan's miners with his apprentice, Salter. His specialty is to make armor which the clan uses in battle and also sells to outside clans.
