Biography

this is a long one i’m so sorry i was really feelin it

If you could have one wish, what would it be?
G R O T T O ,- h i d d e n  g r o v e  f o u n d e r - | - lawful good

In his younger years, Grotto would have been unrecognizable as the gentle, fatherly dragon he is today. As a young hatchling, he never quite felt at home, no matter where he went. He felt alone, and sought out partnership with many dragons. He never stuck around long enough for the eggs to hatch. He could never quite sit still, wandering from realm to realm. After many years of travel, he felt he’d seen it all. He became uninterested in what the world had to offer, and felt lost. More lost than he had ever felt before. Still, Grotto dreamed of one day finding a place to call home and finding someone worth sticking around for.
In his travels, Grotto came across a carnival troupe, which he briefly followed around because he had nothing better to do. In this troupe, there was a fortune-telling spiral he became friends with. One day, when talking about how disenchanted and lost he felt, the spiral told him something that would soon change his life.
“A lot of what I say to troubled souls is generic or made up, but there is one thing I tell to few troubled souls - only those who I believe really need it. There is a dragon... a being... some even call her a demi-diety - out there. She has unspeakable power, and I think she can help you. I’ve never been able to reach her, but her legend has lived on for hundreds of years, and I believe she’s real.”
“Who is she? What does she do?” Grotto was desperate to find meaning in his life again.
“Her name is Amitola. She can be... summoned, but the method is secret. Few dragons ever learn, and even fewer tell. The method is revealed to some of those who are known to be searching for her. She grants wishes, and if you’re able to find the way to bring her to you, she may grant your wish to find a place you belong.”
He began his search the very next day. He left the troupe, and began to travel again, this time asking dragons all over Sornieth if they’d heard of this Amitola and if they knew how to reach her. Some had heard the legend, but denied her existence. Others had never heard of her. Until one day, he came across a pawn dragon. This dragon had a book of legendary and mythical beings and creatures, and Grotto happily bought it on the spot. Inside, he found a page on the mythical Amitola. It told of her great power. And there on the page, it laid out how to summon her.
Ecstatic, Grotto began his hunt for the necessary materials immediately. He needed hundreds of flowers and an open clearing. Deep in the Viridian Labyrinth, he found a clearing near a waterfall that he deemed suitable for the task. He began to lay out the flowers just as the book explained, which took many painstaking hours for every detail to be perfect. When it was complete, he took a step back. The moment he did, the flowers began to swirl into the air, seeming to multiply and form a floating flurry of colorful petals. It grew larger and larger until he and everything around him was engulfed in flowers. Just as quickly as it began, the flurry settled and before him, an enormous pink imperial dragon with shimmering golden wings. Amitola.
He was shocked, of course, but quickly got to the point. He wanted to feel like he belonged. The imperial was silent for long enough that he began to repeat his wish, but as soon as he began, he was interrupted by her speaking. She told him she saw his pain. She told him to sleep in that very clearing that night, and the next morning his wish would be granted. Without another word, she left. The petals all around them began to lift into the sky, becoming a swirling storm of color once again. It swirled all around her, slowing disappearing into the sky, until there was nothing left. No flowers, no Amitola. Surprised that his countless weeks and hours of work had amounted to a mere two minutes with Amitola, he just sat in silence, deep in thought. He stayed there for hours, until sunset came. He watched the sun pass and the moon begin to rise, and soon he fell asleep.
The next morning he awoke, confused by his surroundings. This wasn’t the clearing he’d fallen asleep in. No, this was a beautiful grove of luscious trees and greenery in every direction. But there it was, the same waterfall he’d seen shimmering in the moonlight as his eyes drifted to sleep. It was the most beautiful place he’d ever seen. But that wasn’t the only thing that was different - there was a bogsneak.
That bogsneak would eventually become his wife, and they’d stay in that newly sprouted grove to this day. Grotto had his wish granted - he found a place he could call home, and he’d found a dragon worth sticking around for. He found where he belonged.
