Rakanix finds himself often with itchy feet, such that he is compelled to stay on the move, preferably by running. He prefers to feast on sustenance only after he has at least had one fight in a day, which might just be in a quarrel with another predator over prey.

If a combatant can hold their own, especially when sparring against him, Rakanix will afford them some respect. He considers it a mercy to end the suffering of weaklings, which experience tells will only worsen within the Plaguebringer's domain.

Rakanix is notably more agitated a long period of time without a fight or a spot of sparring. He doesn't require any to be to the death, an opponent that tests him, catches him off guard or takes advantage of a weakness on the Plague dragon's part, any of those give a satisfying battle.

The Mirror becomes distinctly more agreeable after having been tested by a worthy foe in conflict.
The pride Rakanix has in his own hide means he eschews weapons and armour that isn't one's own fangs and scales.

Rakanix has a genuine love for the wilderness. He believes the Viridian Labyrinth, with its warring clans of Wildclaws at the border, and firm defences against pestilent encroachment, is a wilderness itself. Certainly such things wouldn't be true of a paltry, manicured garden.
Naturally the impression of one who had yet to visit was flawed.

One day, Rakanix's wanderings brought him to the coast. A pirate ship was docked for repairs and to resupply. An Obelisk stood on the shore overseeing work. She looked strong and capable, but had lowered herself to armour in Rakanix's eyes.

"Hey!"
The Obelisk turned to look as she was hailed, and the Mirror shouted a challenge.
Promise raised a brow, not that it was obvious beneath her chitin helmet.
Clearly this son of Plague wasn't afraid to punch above his weight. The ship was almost ready to sail so she had some spare time, and it looked like the waste-wolf wouldn't trot off at a simple 'no.'
Better to temper his pride.

Space was cleared and to Rakanix's surprise Promise shrugged off her armour.
"Now you can't call me a cheat."
Rakanix grinned and Promise sighed internally. He was easy to read.
The Obelisk beckoned to let the Mirror make the first move.
Rakanix charged, and Promise blocked with her left arm. She didn't give him the satisfaction of a moan at the bite. With a blow from her right to weaken his grip, Promise flung Rakanix aside. She made another strike before he could rise to counter.
"Stay down!"

Rakanix bridled, but knew he was outmatched.

Promise dismissed him, gathered up her armour, and turned to head back aboard to a few whoops and cheers from the crew.
"Wait!"
"Never learn more than one tactic? Never leave your comfort zone?" The Obelisk snorted. "Now that's what I call weak."
"I can learn!" Rakanix didn't know how to turn tail in defeat. He had to prove her wrong.
Promise stopped. After a few moments, she returned to speak to him nose to nose.
"Can you? Life at sea is rough on landlubbers. You will have to start with the barnacles, scraping and scrubbing to keep my ship at his peak. Can you do that?"
"Yes!"
"Do you swear?"
"Yes!"
"Swear to Captain Promise, to the Bellowing Kraken and his crew."

So Rakanix joined the pirates.

As fate would have it, the Mirror's rival Morilunt had also signed onto the vessel.
Morilunt believed no matter how weak and wretched, all who lived were still fighting, and opposed Rakanix's creed of putting the weak out of their misery. Rakanix had difficulty admitting it to himself, but he didn't entirely hate arguing with the Fae. There was a vitality to arguing that he could appreciate. Better than ignoring one another in bland indifference.

Over time, the Mirror was forced to consider that perhaps the Plaguebringer's first creed: to evolve, was something he had forgotten.

Events he is involved with:
To the Wonder.

In another world...
Never Lose Hope.
