“I don’t know, Iacchus…” Warlock mumbled, his head bobbing uncertainly. He turned from his scroll to look closely in the Ridgeback’s pink eye. He was serious, wasn’t he? Crazy dragon... Iacchus nodded insistently, though with less ferocity since Warlock was perched on the furthest tip of his horn. “I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve seen it done.” Warlock gave a fin wave of dismissal, and then made it more clear for the fin-deaf Ridgeback. “I don’t doubt it can be done, Iacchus. I doubt that it should be done. Alchemy is a fickle mistress in the best of times.” “No, no, no, Warlock, the results are very clear. I’ve gathered most of the requisite materials. Please. Imagine the opportunities for study. Not just alchemical! Sociological! Physiological!” Warlock tapped his nails on the horn to stop Iacchus’s attempts to justify the ethically dubious business of breed changing without a scroll of the gods. “You don’t have to convince me of the benefits, Iacchus.” Warlock watched the spark fly from Iacchus’s eyes, and he was impressed once again with the dragon’s dedication to science. He was willing to do almost anything for it. Finally, Warlock fabricated his best sigh, an expression of disquiet that Iacchus would easily understand. “I’m simply concerned for your safety. That’s all.” Iacchus smiled. “That means a lot to me, Warlock.” The two stared at each other and, for a moment, it seemed they had breached the wall of collegial interaction. But only for a moment. Then Warlock sniffed and shook his head. “I suppose you need me to brew the imbued sulfur. I never saw you get that right, you know.” |

Warlock hails from an Arcane clan, from the union of delicacy and destruction. He never took after his parents, so turned to magic and the wide world of the Starfall Isles. He spends his time studying alchemy and amalgamating materials. Traveling for a brief time to study under the great alchemist Baldwin, Warlock returned home as soon as he could to be with Enchantress again. Continuing his studies at home, Warlock made most of his living in the Arcane Isles utilizing his abilities as an Infused Arcane dragon. He lent his magical abilities to warriors defending Arcane borders from encroachers, or to other dragons engaged in studies far more dangerous than his own. As a consequence, Warlock never practiced the use of magic, but he considers the knowledge he gained in alchemy completely worth it. He and Enchantress lived in the Starwood Strand until another opportunity arrived in a traveling clan seeking a cure for an ill comrade. This time, Warlock was set on seeing the world, and all he had to do was convince Enchantress that opportunity waited beyond the Strand’s shimmering trees. Once outside the Starfall Isles, Warlock realized what a large world it was. When Warlock and Enchantress first left the Strand, neither thought it would amount to much. However, they have gained knowledge, experience, and friends they never thought they would have and more every day. Warlock even acquired an apprentice, though he’s not always sure that’s a good thing. It’s fairly obvious to everyone, and Warlock would deny it if asked, but Warlock more than tolerates Iacchus’s fumbling attempts at alchemy. In truth… he’s rather fond of him. If ever there were an Arcane dragon, Warlock is. He lives and breathes alteration, enchantment, stars, discovery--magic. His magically-altered markings show his dedication, if his intense studying didn’t do that already. He makes himself useful to the Tempest Chase as an their alchemist. He is able to make potions, enhance a dragon’s natural magic, and pull helpful familars, it seems, straight from thin air to assist them. He is also usually pretty good at keeping Iacchus from setting everything on magical fire. |
