Biography
Anubis: Egyptian god of judgement after death and mummification.
Clan Reaper
Melancholy, quiet, stoic, sorrowful.
Anubis' first kill was as a child.
It was unintentional. Like all in their youth, he was curious and eager, excitable and energetic. He ventured too far from the borders of his home while playing with another young clanmate, only to be confronted by a starving wanderer, eyeing their small forms as the only potential meals for miles. Though told the wastes of the Boneyard were vicious and unmerciful, Anubis did not truly comprehend those tales until the day when a Wildclaw's teeth were suddenly aiming for his vulnerable neck.
It was due to the distraction of his Ridgeback clanmate that the Wildclaw was caught off guard, pushed away from Anubis as a target temporarily. The ensuing chaos left his friend mortally wounded and the Wildclaw, blinded by hunger, stalking closer for the final blow. Seeing a red as bloody as his mane, Anubis struck in a rage. When he came back to himself, the Wildclaw was dead and surrounded in its blood, and his friend was gasping his final breaths.
His clan held no ill-will for the loss. Plaguelings are nothing if not survivors, and those who do not survive as hatchlings would've never made strong adults. Feeling tainted by his kill and the friend he could not save, Anubis left his clan as a teenager, wandering aimlessly in search for answers. Answers to why he was so angry at himself. To why he could not get the taste of blood out of his mouth. To why he lusted after that taste so terribly, after everything.
Time passed and Anubis grew, learning to fend for himself and striking down those who viewed him as a potential desperate meal until he was too large for them to challenge. When Scythe chanced upon his scarred and bitter form, he grinned and offered him the answers he so desperately craved, in the form of a family of misfits and a job of blood.
Though the bloody Imperial may never allow himself to be open enough again to feel love and affection, for fear he may once more lose it, he has at least allowed himself the forgiveness for his sin of enjoying the kill. After all, it cannot be so bad to take a life if it means protecting more than just your own.
