Velvet would have liked to say it was gradual.

It wasn't.

They all had their reasons for leaving. It might have been an emergency, or something else. Velvet didn't remember anymore, only that they had all left, in the end.

It didn't matter. Not really. All it did was give Velvet time for herself. Time to find her calling, to explore deeper into the caves. There was something down there, she knew it. She could feel it.

Velvet had first found the caves when she was out foraging for food. She'd seen some odd vines, they looked almost like ivy, growing all over big rocks that seemed to dominate the area.

But when she came back out again, Velvet found that she was no longer alone.
They had returned.

"'Have you ever held another dragons soul in your claws?'" Velvet sat with her back to Silver, wings pressed to her sides.

"W-what?" The younger dragon froze, barely managing to regain her grip on the wooden tea cup in her paws.

"That's what he asked me, all those years ago, when I first found them." Velvet drew in a deep breath before continuing, "'Have you ever had their soul in your clutches, trembling, shaking, their whole life laid out before you. Its beginning, its middle, and then its end. Their entire existence, a mere speck of dust in the grand cave that is the passing of time.' I didn't know what to say if I am being honest."
