However, the role teaches her a modicum of restraint, and that often leaves in her in an upbeat mood when she’s successfully not blurted every thought aloud to the council. (She doesn’t notice how Heulog smiles when she does though; Ruza’s opinion is often valued for the very same reason she says it in the first place - she is passionate enough to not be able to stop saying what she wants, and often acts as a decent foil for traditionalists. She is also, Heulog notes, the closest advocate for Machlud. His values and Ruza’s opinions are often exceedingly similar, and as he’s refused to stand in power, Heulog hears his side regardless.) Ruza is glad that she has a Mate - she wasn’t entirely sure if she would, as she is so outspoken. She’s even more pleased that it turns out to Machlud; the handsome, mysterious recluse, who looks at her sometimes like she hung the stars in the sky. She’s constantly flattered by his adoration, and she is equally well-received in her brashness and energy. In fact, they even picked up a habit rather early on, and don’t really discuss it, but when she lists after a long, energetic day, she curls around his warm, furry shoulders like an unruly scarf. It embarrasses her children to no end, but it’s worth it for the small smile on Machlud’s face just before she sleeps. Once their Lair has settled into its final location, she realises she has a fondness for writing outside of her work, and cautiously starts writing poetry. She writes for her family initially, until Ember, the librarian, hears about her efforts, and offers her the chance to write up their History as an epic tale. Ruza accepts her offer as her children had grown up and left, and writing soon becomes one of her highlights of her day. She works alongside her son, Mefus, who works as the head archivist within the Grand Library. He helps her remain factual, and in return, he allows her to... Embellish the truths in a flight of fancy. She eventually ends her career as a scribe for Heulog and Mabli, allowing her assistant Nia to take over for Pel and Apollo. Ruza trained the girl well, so she's satisfied with the decision to pass it down.
