Biography
Microlore: Many may view this young pearlcatcher as a bit odd. She is known to take thoughtful strolls through the clan while humming to herself and seemingly not to hear anything anyone is saying to her. She is also known for her fascination with the dead and the exalted dragons in the history of the clan. Her eulogies and memorial poetry for those groups, respectively, is haunting and serene, and has moved some of the most hard-hearted dragons to wracking sobs.
Full Lore:
Melpomene grew up in a quiet clan in Dragonhome. With both of her parents fully engaged in making their odd clocks, Melpomene turned her interests to other pursuits. She was fascinated by the oral storytelling in the clan, and especially by the clan's resident poet, Meadowtouch. But where he provided smart-mouthed ditties for the entertainment of others, Melpomene yearned to create poetry that meant something.
She spent many years practicing her forms, perfecting her meters and rhymes. During this time, she was often referred to as "Franchessa's daughter" with a bit of an eyeroll from more sensible members of her birth clan. She was often found lost in thought, and it was difficult to get her attention for more practical matters like "did you eat today?" and "where is your sister?" But during that time, Melpomene found her Voice, and it was her Voice that served her well when she was ready to leave Oakrest.
When she was old enough to travel on her own, Melpomene traveled with a group of pilgrims to the Pillar of the World. During that time, she learned their stories and their lives, and she watched from afar as they ascended to serve Earthshaker. For each of them, she composed a few verses, trying to remember their lives among the common, mortal dragons, for surely their deeds among the gods would outshine anything that concerned them before they became Exalted.
But when they were gone, Melpomene felt an unnerving emptiness. She certainly didn't want to return to Oakrest - she knew all those stories. And she knew quite a lot of the stories of the Viridian Labyrinth, too, since many of her former clan came from there. So she started walking, humming to herself as she watched the stones and dust beneath her claws. She thought of those who had gone to serve Earthshaker, tying and untying their stories into larger and shorter pieces as she traveled.
And in time, she found her way to the Tangled Wood.
