Visitors to Owl's apothecary sometimes crane their necks to see into the shady depths of her home, seeking a glimpse of Whisper, her elusive spiral mate. Whisper is surrounded by a haze of rumors and stories. His familiar is said to have been a creature that he petrified with a potion while he was searching for the key to eternal life; beneath his mask his eyes are said to be empty voids, the price of a hideous spell.

Those who know him know that Whisper know that these rumors couldn't be further from the truth. The glittering spiral behind the mask is mild-mannered and shy. True to his nature-flight heritage, he enjoys herbs, and keeps a quiet garden where he grows many of the plant ingredients for Owl's medicines. Kite visits him occasionally to consult him about plants.

For the most part he doesn't mind the rumors; they keep other dragons at a distance, which grants him the peaceful solitude he desires. When he was younger he was very self conscious of his shimmering scales, which made it hard to blend in in his forest home. It was Owl who hunted for them, and Owl who chased away the beasts who came to taunt him, drawn to the glitter of his hide. She is his best and truest friend, and he would do anything for her.
