Akeno

The Reluctant

He who has foregone his gifts

As a Water dragon, Akeno is surrounded by prophecy. They are as common as the currents, changing constantly as the tides. What more can be expected from dragons following the Tidelord? While many dragons around Akeno have premonitions, Akeno has never in his day successfully seen anything. He is convinced that the Tidelord has cursed him - or forgotten him entirely.

“There was that one festival day when I forgot to pray to the Tidelord. That’s probably why,” one can often hear Akeno mutter under his breath. Or perhaps, “I wasn’t the smartest or largest in my clutch, it’s easy to overlook me.” Occasionally, he earnestly proclaims to his peers, “You know, I’m better at organizing the prophecy scrolls. At least I can see those. Anyway, I think I would know if I had visions of any kind.”

What he doesn’t see, however, are the little things and happy endings. Without knowing why, he will choose a certain path to swim along: Only to find a handful of treasure floating in the currents. More often than not, he will forget his notebook and pens at home on the exact day where a small, visiting organization is handing out free supplies as part of their advertisement. Occasionally, he will give his Clanmates off-hand comments, seemingly random advice about their meal plans or work assignments, that improve their lives immensely, or help them to avoid what would have been a sudden emergency.

When questioned, Akeno just shrugs and says, “I’m just lucky, I guess.”

He is certainly lucky to have met his mate, Lycoris. They became friends before he came to the Clan of the High Seas, when he was still living at the Darksand Resort and Spa. Just days before Lycoris arrived on vacation, Akeno was ready to leave his birth Clan and find his own home. But something stopped him - his heart clenched, warning him not to go. It was a strong enough feeling that he changed his plans and decided to stay with his family for one more week. That was when Lycoris checked in. He will not speak of what happened at their first meeting, but will gladly gush about the rest of their time together.
