Note: This dragon is trans-female. :)" - ixris The only thing Yvette has ever been sure of is that she is female, not male. As soon as she could speak, she was correcting her parents and siblings when they addressed her with the wrong gender or name. That wasn't the only thing that differentiated her from the others around her. Though everyone in the clan was driven and passionate, she felt she lacked a purpose. This didn't worry her too much, though, as she was optimistic that she would fall into a role eventually. Her younger brother Jinx didn't share her optimism about the future. Convinced he was cursed due to his drab wings, he latched onto the story his father told about the exorcist children of Ink and Paige who had traveled to the Starfall Isles and wiped out (according to the rumors they'd heard) an entire island of spirits. He thought an exorcist would surely be able to get rid of his curse and badgered his sister to travel there with him. As she had yet to find a role in the clan, she agreed to go with him. Though she and her siblings had friends among the clan's other hatchlings, her mother had warned her and her siblings to stay away from Riad and Adva's children, as they were likely haunted and definitely unsuitable playmates. She often observed them from a (safe) distance, especially one pearlcatcher who often seemed to talk to himself and move oddly as if dodging things that weren't there. She and Jinx were surprised to see the same pearlcatcher in the back of the hostel one day, and they took the opportunity to accost him out of the sight of their watchful mother, questioning him about what it was like to be haunted. She was surprised when her brother told the pearlcatcher about his grand plan to journey to see the exorcists and invited him along on their adventure. This proved to be a saving grace to the venture, as the pearlcatcher, Sift, was far more responsible and organized than either of the siblings and helped them fine-tune their plans. They hid themselves in their merchant father's outgoing cargo. The journey was long and hot, but eventually the cargo changed hands, and the dragon who received it was quite irate to discover three hatchlings hiding there. Fleeing the angry merchant, they sneaked aboard a ship at harbor and, after some further adventures, finally ended up on the island of Prufrock in the Starfall Isles. As soon as they reached the island, Yvette and Jinx knew something was wrong, because Sift was acting even more strange than usual, darting about as one possessed. Frightened by their companion's erratic behavior, the two coatl ran off, seeking the wildclaws they had come in search of. It didn't take long for them to locate the exorcist siblings, Verso and Bound, and their cohort Visk, who were already on their way to determine what was causing all of the island's spirits to congregate at one location. Thankfully the spirits were weak and easily banished, but Verso and Bound stared at Sift in horror when they rescued him from the mound of spirits he had been buried in. It was clear they knew just whose offspring he was. There was a lot of explaining on both sides - the hatchlings spoke of their journey to visit the exorcists, while the exorcists explained the clan's relationship with the spirit realm. She knew her brother was ill content with the exorcists' assessment that he wasn't really cursed, but she was happy to settle into a new home, though still unsure how she would fit in. She took to hanging around the library since her brother was studying there and began helping out, shelving books and putting away scrolls that the scholars had left out. Though her somewhat disorganized nature (and getting distracted by library patrons who want to bend her ear about their latest theory or discovery) mean that the materials don't always end up back in the right place, her help is much appreciated. The clan's odd-job dragon Wallace was quick to sense a kindred spirit and befriend her. She often helps him out with his various tasks, and together they do a multitude of little things for the clan's dragons - making flower arrangements and leaving them places that will give others joy, sending short notes and cards with kind sayings, and going out of their way to lend a listening ear or a helping hand. They're probably the only two dragons in the clan who remember everyone's birthday. At first she mistrusted Yew's constant flattery and gifts of beautiful clothing - surely he was just making fun of her. His affections proved to be genuine, however, and they have been inseparable ever since. Yvette is always happy to model any new styles of clothing her mate designs. |
