Trident of the Tidelord

Mistake. The word beats in his veins like liquid thunder. From before he hatched, he dreamt of the Arcanist’s kind face. Warm pink glow; dying sunset. Knowing eyes. He knew his life would be a hard one — one of the blade — but he was ready.
Yet, as his shell cracked, something happened. The Tidecaller took control of him, painting his eyes blue and his heart with warm water. The Arcanist’s face vanished beneath pounding, foamy waves. As he blinked in the brand-new sunlight, he knew his destiny was not his own.
Every thought, every breath carries him onward, sends him hurtling down fast-moving flumes he has no control of. Weary, he never rests. The blade of the Tidecaller: the Trident.
