Biography

The reaction he got from The Arcanist was not quite what he had expected. Anger, yes. Banishment, definitely. Overwrite was certainly not expecting The Arcanist to be so curious about him and his differences. Even less so, was he expecting the god he couldn't connect to to eagerly try and help him cover the fact that he was, for all intents and purposes, powerless save for his normal physical skills. Together they had managed to create a system to help simulate what his powers should be, albeit weaker versions, and hid them within some jewelry he could constantly wear. Overwrite was thankful for the help he had received from the overly curious god, but refused to stay for the other to study his rather, curious, condition. He felt no need to search for what he felt was an unneeded fix to something that wasn't broken.

He never thought that anyone in his clan would find out about his technological fix for his magic, but then he also overestimated his friend and comrade Xanshu's control over the direction of his stray sparks, especially in the heat of a serious battle. It only took one zap to short out a segment of his system and overload the rest as they tried to make up for the damaged piece. Not being a very good liar, Overwrite ended up stumbling over a murmured explanation of what had happened.

Xanshu and Lysandria watched him with skeptical looks as he explained everything, timidly clarifying things that made his two comrades eyes squint in confusion. Of all the things he had hoped against, any of the clan that took him in finding out that he had no real flight or power to call his own was at the top. It was made infinitely worse by the fact that he had to explain it himself to his two best friends. Overwrite could only hope they would at least grant him a dignified exit from the clan if nothing else.

Yet again, the reaction he got wasn't what he expected. He wasn't expecting to look of realization on their faces, and he most certainly didn't expect to see hurt in their eyes when he finished his tale. They understood his fear of being turned against for being different, but they couldn't deny the fact that it hurt to have someone they trusted their lives to on a daily basis not give them the same respect and trust.

And like that, the matter was dropped. To Overwrite, it was almost as if it were a dream. At least it would have been, if it weren't for the subtle signs the other two left everywhere, almost too common to notice if he weren't looking for them. While he had been fixing up his gadgets so that he wouldn't be completely useless against stronger foes, the duo claimed he worked himself too hard and took one of the younger dragons with them to teach them how to hunt and fight. When he finally fixed his gadgets and joined them in the field again, Xanshu seemed extra cautious of his sparks and did everything he could to keep the ones that would erupt from the temperamental dragon away from him. He also noticed how one or the other would be distracting the sentinel on the nights he would head out and meet up with others like himself. The most notable change, however, was the tailwind that seemed to welcome him back and lead him home the moment he got close enough to the clan on his returns from the nighttime rendezvous.
