Ysamere was only a hatchling when another dragon stumbled upon her newly broken lightning eggshell in the dust of the Highland Scrub. This was the first dragon Ysamere had ever met, an oath-sworn Watcher of the Lightning Paladin Corps. The dragon instructed Ysamere to address them as Buir and that they would take her under their wing as she grew through her adolescence. Of course, a young hatchling like Ysamere would only catch some meaning of this dragons' language at the time. She and Buir traveled across the Shifting Expanse for a week while the elder taught Ysamere about the language and culture of Lightning Flight dragons. Eventually, they arrived at The Source (located in the southern region of the Shifting Expanse), which became the primary military base for Paladins of the Lightning Flight. After explanations, Buir gave Ysamere- a newly developed young adult Mirror- a choice between two futures; join the extensive Paladin Corps as a fresh recruit or become Buir's foundling and be trained inside the Paladin Corps as an Oath of the Watchers candidate.

Ysamere immediately chose to become Buir's foundling, as they were the only dragon that her Mirror instincts could ping as part of her pack. She spent the next 15 months at the side of Buir, learning Paladin magical and martial skills and training in the Way of the Watchers. In their first lesson, Buir said, "A paladin who assumes the Oath of the Watchers swears to safeguard the realm from otherworldly threats." Eventually, her knowledge expanded to the core tenets of the Watchers: vigilance, discipline ("your blade must be forever sharp and your mind keen to survive what lies beyond the realm..."), and loyalty ("you must stay true to your Way, your comrades, and your duty," Buir intoned). At the end of her training period, Ysamere passed her Watchers candidacy exam with top marks and proceeded to swear herself to the Oath of the Watchers. Not even days later, she and Buir had gotten word that the Corps had received her assignment from The Stormcatcher.

The assignment read, "In accordance to the Paladin Manual (Section 15A), Watcher Ysamere has been granted a 21-month task by the will of the Stormcatcher.
The assignment is as follows... Infiltrate the information network of the Wiretangle Walk to locate a suspected Shade-worshipping cult and investigate and eliminate their activities.
The Stormcatchers assessment of this task is a Red Priority and an estimated difficulty of a level 4.
Recommendations: gather allies by establishing connections with other spies and informants, and keep a healthy suspicion and awareness about your surroundings."

THE GOODBYE

Ysamere and Buir knew that a time-sensitive task should not wait long, but they needed to say their goodbyes. Although Buir would never admit it, they had tears streaming down their scales as they presented a heavy locked box and a long delicate case to their foundling. Ysamere quickly opened the larger box, surprised when it revealed the latest version of the Voltaic Stormclaw combative support item. She thanked Buir breathlessly as she dug into the next case, excited for other possible paladin gear. The case unlatched and opened to a fabric interior wrapping a bladed weapon in cheap cloth. "Ysamere, this is a Valkyrie blade, a well-made sword that should protect you well during a duel."

She couldn't believe the kindness of Buir and presented her gift, a rare Lightning Runestone, to them with genuine gratitude. Buir remembered when Ysamere acquired this particular artifact. Every junior in the Paladin Corps may participate in the ultimate game of Capture the Runestone. The game has trainees split into groups of three, and then each group is given a lightning runestone. However, all but one of the runestones are well-crafted forgeries. The goal is for each group to gather as many runestones as they can, and each imitation is assigned a point value of 1, and the real runestone has a point value of 100. Ysamere and her crew were able to capture the real runestone from an opposing team and kept it until the game's limit was over. The Corps supervisors allowed her to keep Lightning Runestone for achieving the greatest point total. Buir appreciated that this gift offered them a keepsake to remember their child by. They said a gentle goodbye, and Ysamere took off- in her Highland Scavenger garb- to the Wiretangle Walk.

THE COVERT
In over 12 months, Ysamere had transformed from a newly graduated Paladin into an experienced Bounty Hunter of the Wiretangle Walk. However, this transformation was not done without allies and acquainted contacts who were instrumental in introducing her to the ways of bounty hunting. One such ally and undefeated archer, Kiersi, became her second in a small guild they founded to gain full benefits as Stormcatcher-licensed bounty hunters. Kiersi and Ysamere spent the next 9 months convincing and befriending a variety of other misfits, refugees, and rogues of the Wiretangle Walk to join their guild.
Until the unnamed guild had grown to a size of 19, all the dragons had to covertly meet in random spots of the Walk if they were to give each other items or resources. But, Ysamere had discovered an unclaimed lair in a nearly undetectable area within the Walk's deeper circuitry. After a long week of assisting all of the guild's members to move into the lair, Kiersi and Ysamere finally chose a name for the guild: The Beskaryc Covert.
