xxxxxHmm... Nothing better than a successful day of alchemy and transmutation. I don't see anyone could find these sciences boring! The fact that we can take a few scrap pieces and turn them into one new thing is astonishing! Not to mention how helpful it can be. It can bring a declining clan in need of tools or clothes or even food back on its feet. xxxxxBut I guess my parents never saw it that way. When I first started studying the sciences, Mom and Dad were ecstatic. They hoped that I would be a successful scientist for our clan. Botanist, biologist, geologist, anything like that. Our clan was known for raising successful dragons, and they wanted me to be the next one. One day, however, I picked up a book on alchemy. It was dusty and old; it obviously hadn't been touched in years, if not decades. But that wasn't all that attracted me to it. xxxxxI remember the delicate pages beneath my claws. I was afraid I was going to tear them because they were so frail! But the contents of those pages were enthralling! The dreamed of conversion of lead into gold, the rich history, great alchemists of the past! I wanted to be a part of it all! So I put all my time into studying alchemy and nothing else. xxxxxWhen I felt like I had a firm understanding of the subject, I asked my parents for supplies. They never knew that I had been engulfing myself in the world of alchemy, so when i asked for a cauldron and some minor materials, they didn't even think twice. Of course, I wanted to surprise them and show them what I learned, so I brewed my first concoction in secret. xxxxxIt took me a few tries, but I was finally able to successfully brew some feathers I had gathered, transmuting them into brilliantly white muck. Granted, it wasn't anything special, but from my readings, I had done something right! I showed my parents right away, telling them everything I learned and did. I was so proud of myself that day. I had made my first product of alchemy! xxxxxMy parents, on the other hand, were the complete opposite. I had never seen them so... So horrified. So offended. My father demanded I leave the nest immediately. He wasn't one to take no for an answer easily, and he looked like he was ready to explode. If his glare didn't scare me solid, I would've tried to defend myself and make him see my accomplishments a little clearer. But I couldn't. I scurried to gather my belongings. I heard my mother speaking with my father about how I "wasn't raised to be like this" and that I "was a witch." xxxxxBeing called a witch by my own mother was... Devastating, to say the least. There was no way I could feel at home after that. Not that they would let me back, anyway. So I took my few things and departed. I would've taken my cauldron, but my father had already taken it away and probably destroyed it. xxxxxBut I didn't let that kill my love for alchemy. In fact, I only did it more! I carry along that dusty old book that sparked the passion to this day, and I still reference to it all the time. Of course, I have other, more up-to-date books on alchemy now, as well, but it doesn't hurt to hold onto your roots. And I've been able to learn more and more with every passing day. Sure, I still have my failed brews, but at least I can use some of those remains for new brews. |
