“What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark? It would be like sleep without dreams.”
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯

The wind howls above the savage ocean surf. The waves crash against your frail boat as you’re careened around the cabin. That’s when you saw him. The Imperial, struggling against the waves to stay afloat. He couldn’t have been anything but drowning. You manage to steer the poor boat towards his cries for help. Without hesitation, you dive into the water and paddle madly towards him. After what feels like forever, you reach him, and begin pulling him towards the boat. As you near the small boat, he begins coughing.

“Thank Tidelord when you got here when you did. Or not. Screw Tidelord.”

The two of you collapse onto the deck, coughing, then laughing.

“What were you doing out here without a boat? No dragon can survive this pounding surf, not even water dragons!” You ask.

“I was hunting.” He replies.

You glance around. There’s no civilization for miles. The ocean goes on for seemingly forever. Though, something about the way he said the sentence bothered you.

“Hunting?” You ask. “Around here? What exactly is there to hunt?”

The Imperial smiles. The storm rages even harder.
“Fools.”

He lunges at you with no warning, and you hit the deck with a sickening thud. Throwing his head back, he screeches.

Your vision clears as you get your first look at what you had just saved. The Imperial’s scales were no longer the same color it was moments ago. It was now blue and black, dark like the raging ocean that threatened to capsize your tiny boat. Fins sprouted at its joints, giving off a soft mechanical light. Sharp spines poked out of its back, and they seemed to glow dark red. Its eyes were completely black, gleaming as it let out a throaty laugh.

“My clan will wonder where I went,” you gasp, “they’ll find my boat.”

It snarls, and before you can say anything more, it lunges forward and sinks its fangs into your shoulder. Adrenaline kicks in, and you hit the creature with every ounce of force you have left. You’re awarded with a grunt of pain, and you scramble to your feet as it recoils.

You know that if you stay on the boat, it would be your end. With only one way to go, you threw yourself off the boat, ignoring the searing pain in your shoulder. What you didn’t notice as the waves swallowed you was the eerie glow of bright white runes, swimming along the boat. You propelled yourself as fast as you could, away from the creature and away from the boat. You hear its screams as it too dives into the water. It’s gaining on you, following the trail of blood. The white runes are disappearing into the murky depths while you’re focused on the Leviathan. You can see it clearly now as it gains steadily. With a last ditch attempt, you put everything you have into swimming away, struggling to keep afloat. Then the jaws bite down on your shoulder, and you feel yourself being dragged down to the depths. You call out, but are met by nothing but a stream of bubbles and blood. Before you black out, however, you are released, and are greeted by two creatures; the Leviathan, and the dark, dark Abyss.
