Cerival is said to be a creation of the Icewarden and one of the guards of the Fortress of Ends. However, for reasons she has not explained, she took her leave from the prison and the main community of living dragons there. The most common theory is that by virtue of being a Guardian, she couldn't ignore her need to Search; even if she was supposedly created with a specific purpose in mind. Of course, if anyone actually asks her about her origins, she will simply say that she has moved on from her past, and that what she was once was is no longer what she is.

What is known about her history is that she was found creating a large lair in an area deemed inhospitable by most, and the Fae was near dead when he ran into her. Despite being an Ice dragon, Shariz's small frame couldn't tolerate the blizzard winds buffeting him about. Cerival heard his cries for help, and she braved the snow to save him. When he came to, she had brought him to the rough beginnings of her lair, and though crude, it was effective in sheltering inhabitants from the rough chill. She explained to him that she wanted to make a place for those who were lost, and she could sense that he was lost in more ways than one. Whatever else they discussed is still private between them, but the Fae decided to stay and help her create the lair she imagined. He had a better sense of architecture, and while Cerival did the main digging and building needed, he designed it.

When they finished, the two realized that they had developed feelings for each other over the course of the lair's construction, and thought they should take things further. They had three eggs to care for in the empty lair, and for a while, things were quiet. Then their small home had its first new residents. Over the course of a few weeks, Cerival would feel something calling her, and she would leave the lair to find whatever it was. Shariz would soon learn that if she left, then she would come back with a dragon in tow. Most of the time, it would be a young child, though she did come back a few times with young adults. Thankfully, she did feel a call to visit a clan in Nature, where three adults followed her back. With the help, the progenitor pair were better equipped to handle the children coming through.

Many of the dragons that were brought in decided to stay, and as the children grew older, they took on different jobs to help out. The young adults and even adults often already had professions ready, but the reasons they were here instead of back home were often not good. Cerival, while not a counselor, offered as much support as she could to these lost souls, and genuinely sought help for them whenever she left the clan. All the dragons that she accepted had a reason to be there, no matter what they had done in their past.

Cerival definitely has a bleeding heart not expected of an Ice dragon, though some dragons wonder if that's because her charge calls for it, or if it's genuine. She can't refuse a cry for help from most dragons, and somehow can sense the cry even if it isn't verbal. The Guardian is a comforting presence to most in the clan, and though her size sometimes scares the smaller dragons in her clan, most quickly get over it. She isn't always much of a talker, but she listens and will give the best advice she can.

Sadly, her charge appears to be dragons that aren't guaranteed long lives for whatever reason, and the older the dragon she brings in, the more worried she is over them. The hatchlings she brings in don't usually have many problems since they often imprint on her as their mother, and they often forget they had ties to any dragons outside of the lair. The young adults and adults, however, are often watched carefully until they're able to integrate with the rest of the clan. There are a few ghost stories of the lair, but instead of being spooked by them, she is often melancholy during the telling of those tales.

Like most Guardians, she is fiercely protective of her charges, and though they don't often have to deal with outside threats, she is always on the forefront of the defense. Her lair being so far away from most communities also makes it easier to defend from other dragons who might have hunt down a dragon she has chosen to protect. It's hard to find a way in if you're not supposed to be there, and the tight knit community knows all the members on sight.
