Biography
Scissors was the grandson of the Wizard Underwood, and though he was not related to the Wizard by blood, he showed remarkable magical talent from a young age, so Agostino decided to train Scissors as his student and perhaps even his heir. Scissors's primary area of interest was magical transformation, and an unfortunate accident gave him a body as hard as steel that gleamed like a polished mirror. He could not move at first, and his mother wailed about the tragic death of her son until Agostino stepped in to quiet her. There wasn't much the wizard could do for his apprentice, however; Agostino had no idea how Scissors had done what he had done to himself, and the strange metal body reflected magic unpredictably. In time Scissors learned how to move again; he grew used to his metal body and soon discovered it was far more beneficial than he had imagined. He was impervious to disease and to attack; needed no food or water; and didn't seem to age (though rust was a major concern). |
It was a dark night when the Plaguebearers burst in, Igor trailing behind them waving her tail in agitation. Agostino knew the family; they were neighbors, of a sort, though they largely kept themselves cloistered in their hidden enclave. The wizard had tried unsuccessfully to treat their sickness, but no panacea had been found to cure it. The big imperial wailed and gestured; her mate wrung his claws and attempted to calm her.
"Our daughter," he explained. "She fell ill some months ago, and now...now she has become solid crystal. She can't move, but she is alive. I can sense it."
Agostino stood up sharply. "Calm down, man. Scissors can see to her. If there's anything to be done, he'll find it. He has -" a wry smile - "experience in this sort of problem."
The firelight glinted dazzlingly off his polished scales as Scissors stood up. "Take me to her," he said.
