Called: Denizen of Trotcliffe, or Trotter for short Current Favored Activity: Fletching Mate: - Battlebond: herself Origin: unknown {hatched seconds after scavenging the egg} Intent: to hunt wild game to perform the same customary rituals as every Trotter does over their food, even if it all feels a bit silly. Every meal she's supposed to "express gratitude" like it's a requirement to eat. What happened to the founding custom "What's needed is given"? She needs meat, she gets it, end of story. She thought commerce was supposed to be unwelcome in Trotcliffe, so why must she pay for meals with a forced "thank you" to empty air, or else she gets nasty looks from other Trotters? It's not like the stonehewers thank every rock they gouge out of the ground. She makes less of an impact than that by nibbling a few Zeeba from the abundant herds. Gratitude only matters to ears that hear and understand it, and her meals are twice past that. She'd understand complimenting a cook, but she eats raw. Other gatherers deserve gratitude from those they feed, but she makes her own kills with her own arrows. She's not about to thank the breeze for blowing her first arrow off-course. When she says her thanks, it's to herself, for the arrows that count. At least it's skillfully hunted meat, an honorable meal to shower in empty flattery. If she had to "appreciate the fullness of the journey of life" of every blade of grass before she swallowed it, like all the Cliffies seem to, she'd never have agreed to be a Denizen. |
