The More You Know The Less You Fear
Written by Oncamimus

Xaa-or had been rather small for an infant Guardian. He emerged from his egg during one of the busiest hatching days for The Brood. Before he even so much as wriggled, five other Broodlings had already hatched, and still more wriggled visibly under the leathery skin of their egg shells. Xaa-or had been one of few hatchlings to rip open his own egg from the inside. When he popped his head out and the ooze trailed down his head, he had found himself emerging from the wing of a colossal creature, and around him countless other embryos incubated in pustules similar to his own. All five of The Broodmother's Drones had their hands full helping his Broodsiblings out of their eggs, the majority of them Guardians like himself. He had made a small chirping sound in attempt to alert someone, watching as the Drones walked upon the large form of the creature below them, some stopping now and again to lick up any last bit of ooze that was plastered on the other hatchlings before moving on. No one took notice. Perhaps it was because of the sheer amount of eggs that wriggled and chirped in desperate need of help that he had been ignored. Maybe he had been too quiet. In the end, it's hard to say how a Guardian hatchling, even one so small as him, had gone completely unnoticed.

Without another word, Xaa-or pulled the rest of himself out of the egg, and watched as a strange two legged Drone padded over to an egg that was wriggling around rather violently and flared his wings repeatedly. Still…the Drone hadn't noticed. He had then climbed his way down the large body of the creature he had arisen from and for the first time, put shaky taloned feet upon the cool earth. The change in temperature made him shiver slightly, and as he stumbled about, he found himself growing frustrated at his own pace. He fell and warbled around often, but after a few moments, he found himself moving around decently enough. Still…none had noticed him.

He wandered around the side of the colossal being before him, heading down to the creatures tail. He batted a bit at the tuft of The Broodmother's tail as it flicked spastically, then moved up the other side when he had gotten bored of his game. He might have been able to walk right past The Broodmother and out the cave at the rate he was going unnoticed, but eventually, he was spotted. He was maneuvering past the opposite wing to the one he was hatched from, when he noticed a smaller egg wriggling violently fairly close to him. He moved towards it to inspect it more. Under the greenish film of the egg shell, he could see something brightly colored with Black Earwings flailing and flipping over and over in it's egg. He tilted his head, and wondered why it didn't just shoot up out of the egg the way he had, but he supposed the smaller creature didn't have the strength.

He was about to make an incision when he noticed a warm putrid smelling wind began hitting his face. He looked up, his nose bumped up against another, and he locked eyes with a creature that looked…surprised….as well as perturbed…though he would have been too young to understand what that was. It was Mucopurulentus, the Male Mirror Drone. He had been one of the Drones he had seen pass him by earlier, carrying what looked to be a rather large purple and yellow Guardian Broodling in his maw. The Drone's eyes darted back and forth for a moment, and Xaa-or backed up a little, unsure of what fate had in store for him with this dodgey looking fellow.

The reaction was immediate. Muco pawed the Broodling's shoulder, causing him to fall over before quickly lifting him up with his jaws by the infant's midsection. Xaa-or shrieked a shrill cry, and found himself being carried toward the head of the giant creature they trotted so casually upon. He looked back to the egg that they left behind, calling out…What if they didn't see him as they hadn't seen him. The two legged drone lifted his head to the sound of the Broodling's cries, and following the Broodling's line of sight, b-lined for the egg. Xaa-or relaxed a bit, though wondered what fate he had doomed himself and the other Broodling too.

Like many, many Broodlings before him, he was placed before the large head of The Broodmother. Though he couldn't understand their words, he watched the Drone exchange some information back to the darkly colored behemoth in front of him. The ground rumbled as she spoke…or well…maybe it was a she…or an it. It spoke with many voices, echoing into each other and booming. Though he was newborn, he had the strange feeling that this was something that one didn't cross by often. He coward slightly before her. After a moment she regarded him, red eyes glowing in the inky blackness. Then she raised a claw and drew it closer to him. This made him press himself lower to the ground and look up at her wildly. She stayed her hand for a moment, but finally proceeded, and in an instant he felt the glowing red claw touch his forehead, and all he saw was white.

His eyes seemed to focus in this other reality, and the white gave way to darkness, wisps of ghostlike entities traveled around him, disappearing and reappearing. Stranger still, he could hear all of them…and more, some more clearly then others…some multiple times, whispering to one another, and he could understand more about them then he could have ever imagined. He suddenly felt as though they were all extensions of himself…though one of many…they were all…one whole. In the center, like a red beacon in a fog, sat The Broodmother, whose gaze was locked upon him. He stood still…but finally she spoke.

"͕T͉͖̥h͚̗̪̝e͍̣ ̩s̘h̤̬̳a̮͜d͖̮o͇̼̟w͙ ͍̙̹m͕̩̠̙ǫ̱̬̣v̜̗̲e̬̫̞s̡̯̼̰ ̭̯̭̜w̢͓͔į͎t̜h̙ ̜̭͍̟y̫͔o̧̟̹͜u̡̜͉,̧ X̴̨̗̗̥̯͉̤̻͓̻̜ą̶̡̦̲̬̱͓͍̟̩̙̹͇͓̯a̵̢̞̖̥̳̲̭̘̬͇̳-̴̱͖͜͜ͅǫ̷̣͙r̸̨̟̬͓̹̤̳̙͜ͅ…t͇̦h̨̧̹͚ọ͜ͅu̢̜̱̞g͖̗̮h̢̡ ̺̱y͙̯̪̻ǫ̹̼ų̧͎̯ ̨͚a̡̖͚ͅr̢̰͙̲e̼̟̭͈ ͍͎ị͉n̖͚̝ͅ ̢p̨̳͍l̝a͚̦i͚͖n̡̥͍͜ ̦̰͇͇s̫̰̬͇i̹̦̱g͉h̨̺͔t̢̖̝…̧̫̯"̢̦̥

He said nothing…it was strange to suddenly understand the cries that had been erupting from the mouths of the larger dragons…language…the word came to him quickly…as though one of the wisps had planted the word in there.

"̭̥̺̦…̥͇͕i̘t̨̞̭̥ ̜s̩̙a̬͚ͅy̤̫͕s̰̜̙͜ ̭̰͓n͙̮o̡͖ṱh̫͚̪ͅi͎n͇̖̟͜g̦…̡̢̘̳p̦̰͖e͔r͍͍̹̱h͔ạp̙̦͓͜s̢̭̬ ̧̮̹͔a̺̞͔̼ ̝̹̠̲w̪i̖s̨̰̰̥d͔̜o̧̲̥͖m̻ ̨̙̣͜b̘e̪y̨o̝͙͈͇n̨d̮͖ ͔̭͔b̖i̥̤̤ͅr͙̖̝t͓̟̮̻h̢̹̣…̝̜̼W̦̣e̮ ̟̥s͎e̫͇n̯s̜̱̠ͅę̜͈ ̘̯̞͔P̡ͅḷ̳a͓g̡̪͍u̯ȩ̦̩̺b̪͈͉ŗi̜ṉg̥͎e͍̦r̰͓ ͓h͕͜ḁ̜ṣ̠ ̦̗b͜ḷ̹͚e̙̹s̞̻͚̱s̤̞ȩ̤̖̯d͓͔̖ ̭̻y̢̗̦ͅo͚͇u̟̖ͅ ̡̠̱w̭i̞̰̩̼t̘̯̰h̡ ͕m̩̦̲u̫͈ͅc͚͎h͓͉̟̗.̡̱"̪

Though, Xaa-or felt that, here, he could speak this…language…back, he continued to find it hard to say much of anything, not for lack of questions, but because it was a lot to take in. The wisps, the sudden burst of flooding knowledge, the feeling of being a piece of a larger puzzle when only moments before he had been so alone…yes…alone…that is how he thought of it now.

"Uh…right. Well…"

Xaa-or was older. Mucopurulentus had been given the Guardian as his charge, though for the first time, the mirror seemed reluctant. Muco was a trainer in the ways of stealth and The Broodmother had entrusted him to heighten the young Guardian's natural ability to roam undetected, though she gave the mirror no hint as to what she had in mind. It didn't take much to foster the gift, within a couple of days, Xaa-or had developed an almost Shadow Flight-like appreciation for the art of startling and tricking, having tapped into an unforeseen mastery of remaining unseen. Muco was happy to wash his claws of him…

DO NOT use the Plaguebringer Grinning Skull Image for other Dragons without permission from Oncamimus. Thank You!

You're free to delete this quotebox after reading. Feel free to store this coding elsewhere in the event of resale, or rewrite yourself for any future owner!

Since the dragon is now yours, what you do is completely out of my control. Anything written here is merely a suggestion if you decide to continue to use this dragon as a lore dragon.

Thank you for purchasing this Broodling from "The Massive Brood Hatch", an experimental Mass Hatch project with the purpose to create dragons of substance and lore, as well as possibly bring about a new Plague Subspecies!

For purchasing this Broodling, you have been entered into a draw/raffle for Tier Two Dragons with 1 Token. For Details, please visit The Massive Brood Hatch Thread! If you'd prefer not to be entered into the draw, simply ping me on the thread and ask me to remove you from the draw. Tokens are not transferable.

Your Broodling Comes with the Following:
  • Apparel: Lion's Helmet
  • Familiar: Shining Goblin
  • Broodmother-Given Name: X̴̨̗̗̥̯͉̤̻͓̻̜ą̶̡̦̲̬̱͓͍̟̩̙̹͇͓̯a̵̢̞̖̥̳̲̭̘̬͇̳-̴̱͖͜͜ͅǫ̷̣͙r̸̨̟̬͓̹̤̳̙͜ͅ
  • Lore Involvment
  • Partially Fleshed Out Biography

If you plan to resell the dragon later, please consider selling it with all items the creature was sold with.

Feel free to delete any unnecessary information fields, or reorder fields to organize in a way more pleasing to you! You may also feel free to change/update/reorder anything, including text colors, fonts, Hoarding and Inventory items. There are a few things I'd prefer to have remain as they are/relatively are for Lore/Copyright Reasons:

BROODNAME FIELD:
A Broodname is the name the Broodmother gives a Broodling upon reaching adulthood. Not all Broodlings are blessed by a Broodname, as only the strongest Broodlings of the bunch are bestowed with one. They hold untold Eldritch-like power, and those who do not have the strength of mind to withstand it, go insane upon hearing it. This is the name that the Broodling is known by with their Broodmother and with their fellow Broodmates, who all share a place in the Broodmind. You may feel free to change the name of this Broodling if you'd prefer the dragon to be known by a different name, but PLEASE do not change the Broodname in the Broodname Field. It is important for the lore of the dragon that it remains how it is. Please consider not deleting the Broodname Field.

HOARDS FIELD: Being a Broodling, these dragons are prone to hoarding any and all unattended eggs they come upon, with an obvious preference towards Plague Eggs. They usually have several locations where they hide the eggs, so that if one place is found and pilfered, there may be other safe stashes. These eggs may be given to the Broodling's Broodmother as offerings/gifts, or may be saved incase the glory and blessing of Broodmother is placed upon them. Broodlings hoard eggs with no variation on drive to do so based on gender or orientation, it is simply a basic and deeply rooted instinctual drive. They will protect these eggs with their lives, and if they die and their consciousness is severed from the Broodmind, other Broodlings will come to take the eggs, and communally stash and protect them in honor of their fallen Broodsibling. Please consider leaving the Plague Egg image in the Hoards Field. You may feel free to indicate the dragon hoards other eggs (so long as it doesn't go against lore) or change up the order of images etc.

INVENTORY FIELD: The Broodmother will often give gifts to those Broodlings who venture away from her. Broodlings may also get items and apparel as they adventure forward. This field has had the items given along with the dragon already added, however, the dragon does not need to wear any of them if you prefer them not to, though please consider putting anything on the dragon that may apply to their personal lore. Please do not delete these items from their inventory, even if they are not applied to the dragon. When reselling, please consider selling the dragon with the items, as lore may depend on the dragon still having those items. Many thank yous for your consideration of this.

BROODMOTHER FIELD: To Broodlings, the Broodmother is a living, breathing avatar of the Plaguebringer. Even if the Broodling is genetically linked to other dragons, the Broodmother will be considered their only "progenitor" or parent. The love and devotion a Broodling has for it's Broodmother is indescribably deep and unwavering. They share a mental link with the Broodmother (and a less clear mental link "pool" with their fellow Broodmates/Broodsiblings), which is as strong as if the Broodmother were talking to them directly. They can not shield their minds from the Broodmother, however, the Broodmother may put up a wall to block the Broodling from entering her mind/reading her thoughts if she chooses. This is considered an excruciating punishment, which often will manifest as physical pain, though it is purely psychological. It's not uncommon to see a shielded off Broodling writhing and screaming in pain until reunited with the link to the Broodmother. However, if a Broodling is heavily delinquent or dangerous to The Brood as a whole, the Broodmother will be forced to permanently sever links with the Broodling in question. This is extremely painful for the Broodmother and Fellow Broodlings who may morn the loss despite the offending Broodling's tresspasses, and occationally fatal for the Broodling. Those who survive, are akin to a Pearlcatcher that has lost it's pearl or had it destroyed. They will be a husk of an individual. They may even attempt to be adopted by another Broodmother (a common mental disorder by the name of Severed Broodfrenzy, attributed to Severed Broodlings though it has been recorded in non-Broodlings who may have delusions of Broodling Status), though they will quickly see at their first attempt that it is impossible, as a Broodmind Link can only be created between the Broodmother and her Broodling during the incubation and hatching process. In their frenzy to be readopted, they will act extremely irrationally, almost feral. They may harm other Broodlings from other Broods, the Broodmothers, or anything else they may perceive to be hindering them from rejoining a Broodmind link. This often leads to the Broodfrenzier's death, but if not, the Broodling will wander endlessly searching for that Link. Once a link is severed, it can not be relinked. Since the Broodmother plays such an important role for this Broodling, Please consider not deleting the field. If the Field is deleted...the dragon will be considered a Severed Broodling for Lore Reasons.

ALLEGIANCE FIELD: Broodlings and Broodmothers praise the Plaguebringer and seek to live according to her ways. Their Allegiance to her is unquestionable, even if they were born to another flight or have ancestors from another flight. They may praise other Deities, but none before the Plaguebringer. To Forsake the Plaguebringer is unfathomable and a Broodmother will quickly sever a delinquent from the Broodmind, which can be extremely painful for the offending Broodling. You may feel free to add other flags to the Allegiance Field, as it's not just a field for worship, but also a field for other flights the dragon may have earned honor or friendship with. However, please consider placing the Plague Flag above the others...or displaying it in a way that is of the highest honor.

LORE FIELD: The Lore Books and Bookend Images in this Field were commissioned by myself from OverTheWolf at The Library: Pixel Book Adopts (link located in Credits) specifically for the dragons of the event The Massive Brood Hatch. Please do not use these images with your other dragons, as these images do not belong to them and it would likely infringe on adoption rules. You may of course, adopt books of your own for your other dragons, or even add to the library of this dragon with more. You may feel free to swap out any bookends you may commission, etc. You may feel free to get rid of this Field all together...though...it would be a shame...since...this is a lore dragon... These books will eventually have links to lore. Check back to the event now and again to receive Lore Library Coding updates that you can switch out your current coding with for ease of Lore Field Updates!

MASS HATCH IMAGE, QUOTE, AND LINK: This is the Image of the Grinning Plaguebringer skull and outstretched wings, the quote underneath the image, and the link to the event underneath. You may feel free to move it elsewhere on the bio, and/or delete the quote. Please keep at least the image and the link to the event (preferably directly under the image) somewhere on the bio page. Not only will the link help you get to the Event to view any updates or other dragons for sale, but it also will help others to see the event and understand the significance of this dragon. Please do not use the Plaguebringer Skull image elsewhere without asking permission from me, Oncamimus. It is a personal image of mine and one of the few bits of fanart I've created for this place ^^; so it means a great deal to me >.>;

CREDITS FIELD: This is to honor and thank the people who have put in work to make this Bio possible! PLEASE DO NOT DELETE. Many things can only be used with permission and credit, and to Delete it would make this void, or just generally be rude to people who put in time and energy into making cool bio assets. You may of course add any further credits you may need, and I highly encourage crediting back to anyone who may help you flesh out the bio or do art for your dragon! Always support Artists (Drawers, Writers, and Coders among them! :3)
