"For every river and stream you see, there's a maze of pipe, pumps and locks to keep it flowing."
Riven is the hydraulics expert, and works to keep the giant dams and reservoirs regulated. Many miles of special pipe, along with waterwheel-powered pumping stations, distribute water across the edges of the Gladeveins, helping regulate the flow of the many rivers and streams. These systems help capture excess rainwater when storms hit the Labyrinth - an event that used to flood much of the Gladeveins. Now the water is stored, and the rivers are allowed to periodically overflow in a periodic flood known as The Deluge. Thus the Gladeveins is kept fresh and clean, the rivers run full and the streams bubble through the glens, all without the hassle or danger of massive, unregulated floods that destroy as much as they create.
