His eyes—well, you don’t really want to look at them, because something dark creeps into those irises if you look and it’s much better, really, if you don’t—are still wide open, and staring right at you.

You look down, and away.

You know what they say about the Shade.

When it first started to creep into his consciousness, he wasn’t quite aware of it. True, he’d been hunting for the fragments for years, but the last thing he expected was for it to come to him.

It drove away his magic at first. Then his humanity. And then, finally, more as an insult than anything else, it took his sanity. But it left a little of itself behind.

And it is enough. For a self-proclaimed deity, that is. They say that he’ll come if you’re desperate for a way out, anything that will save you or unlock the code or—or… or anything, really. He will make you a deal, with a wink and a beat of his wings.

It’s better to ignore the consequences.

Just do as I say.

Never, ever summon him. Forget whatever I’ve just said. You think losing your magic and the use of your wings are bad? I got off easy. You won’t.

Do not trust him.

It will tear you apart.
