Lagon \Lag-on\

Like all of the dragons in the Gladekeeper's care, Lagon has a special job that he, and most all other ridgeback dragons are expected to do. They are the stormwatchers. Since their species hails from the land of the Shifting Expanse, they are experts at knowing the sky's changes, and have taught these tricks to some other dragons that wish to take up the stormwatcher creed.

This is very important, as the many plants and animals of the Labyrinth thrive off of water and life giving rain. Naturally they need to know when it will rain and when there is sun, especially for those who are farming particular plants.

The other job of stormwatchers is to redirect lightning strikes. They work in tandem with the firekeepers to make sure that lightning does not start huge wildfires that they can't control. By borrowing various items (for the ridgebacks that's usually without asking, so other dragons better check a lightning rod or a nearby ridgeback's lair in case something's missing), they will make large lightning poles in certain areas to draw lightning away from the trees and go directly into the ground. At the same time, they will work with the firekeepers to decide what areas need controlled burns to encourage growth and renewal, as per the Gladekeeper's will.

Lagon is assigned to the cliff areas of the Veridian Labyrinth, while his clan sister, Jade, is in the deeper parts of the jungle. Lagon has always had a love of glowing squid that hang around the coast of the Labyrinth, and regularly eats them, which has caused his...slight glowing problem. Lagon doesn't really see it as a problem though, as he uses the glowing to work late into the night where most dragons have gone on to bed down. He's considered one of the best for night storms, a mantle he wears with pride, though his clan sister Jade still teases him she can see him all the way from her work in the deep jungles.

Lagon, like all ridgebacks and those who have taken up the mantle of stormwatcher, also have another very important job. As the stormwatchers, they are also to keep up with signs of floods and hurricanes. While there is nothing they can really do to stop a flood or hurricane, they CAN warn others in the labyrinth to prepare for the coming onslaught. Marens living in the labyrinth are all allies to the Gladekeeper, who offers them protection from other dragons in return for the ability to fish and warnings of changes in the oceans. If the Marens feel distinct changes in the waters, will send up warning cloths to alert the stormwatcher dragons. The ridgebacks, mostly feeding on fish, will see the large swatches of cloth and then alert other stormwatchers, who will then begin testing and watching the skies as well as letting out warnings for clans, both dragon and beast, to start getting ready for the hurricane.

During floods, stormwatchers give warnings out to all clans, for many to seek high ground and for Marens near large deltas to move further out until the flood has passed so they will not be harmed by the debrie coming along the floodwaters. While not everyone is always saved, this network of stormwatchers has saved many lives and helped protect the many living in the Labyrinth, something that makes Lagon proud to call himself a stormwatcher.
