Berruz, oldest of the Abano brothers, is very much deserving of the title of captain. He accepted the responsibility for taking care of his younger brothers early on. Not that they aren't capable of taking care of themselves, but they are family after all. His drive to provide manifests in a need to find money and land. Like a true pirate captain, he thinks he is mildly above the law. Being the oldest means that he is a bit arrogant, seeing each new interaction as a fight for dominance, and takes very poorly to losing.

As a child, he helped his penny pinching grandfather. He loved working for the family, learning how trade and bartering worked, enjoying seeing new dragons from all over as they turned up in the port city he grew up in. He spent time with the old men in the village, enjoying their card games and gambling, and picking it up quickly. As an adult has a love hate relationship with luck games.

After the death of their father, he was the hardest worker on their new ship. Some think he seeks revenge, angry and wanting to keep his family safe. His brothers know he wants to keep the family name known. Now, captain of his own ship means he is sent on travels to the mainland and back, always set out with a list of things to buy, and a few dragons to keep him on track. He enjoys this new home, as long as his brothers are safe, he is content.
