Slumped against a signpost, half empty bottle in hand, an old dragon surveys the grounds around the marketplace with tired, unfriendly eyes, watching the crowd of dragons coming and going.


"Hey baby, nice tail feathers. They real?" He called to the nearest meat to catch his eye- a shiny little thing with an elaborate, bright blue skin.

The skydancer fixed him with a harsh glare.

"Do you just sit there and heckle people all day, or do you have a reason for being here?"

She continued on her way, pausing only long enough to speak.

"Not even gonna wait for an answer?" He jeered. He felt his fur prickle with that familiar rush. It was rare for someone to give him such a strong reaction, and he felt the attention lift him. He only wanted to ruffle her feathers more.

Oh yeah, this is what it was all about


"No, I already know the answer."

"You stupid? Then why bother asking?"

"Because I want you to think about it" she shouted back, not skipping a step as she left.

The slightest pang of self reflection pinched at his gut, and he drowned it with another gulp.

"Whatever."





"Heart of gold? No, it's more like... Copper, with green spots all over it." Ekra, about himself.
