They give him his strength and his teeth and his claws, and then they show him the creatures of the forests.

And then, finally, they release him for the hunt.

This is the way of the Wild Hunt, a gathering of dragons so ancient that even time seems to have forgotten them, leaving them in the dust and debris of the Old Age. They create beings made from clay and fur and feathers, breathing life into them to aid them in the hunt. A rare few of these creatures are sold to the general populace; only to the highest bidders and the most experienced hunters, of course.

These peculiar constructs lack intelligence, and instead rely on their instincts and experience to navigate the world. They are only a little smarter than your average snarling, mindless beast—and they do no listen to reason.

He is no different. One of the few ridgeback constructs made for the hunt (the rest comprise of mirrors, wildclaws, and the rare tundra), he is made from terracotta and scales, wings edged with blue and eyes a fiery red.

He does not fear water; his creators plucked that fear from his mind when they put him together. They filled the gap with cunningness and loyalty, giving him a little more freedom than the rest of the creatures they built.

He was created for the hunt, and Plaguebringer be damned if he isn’t going to die by it.
