______ Bloodsong stood at the edge of sanity, and heard everything. She listened to the writhing of a copse of gnarled branches as they shriveled and died, heard the festering devastation that spread across the arid land and devoured all that dared to stand in its path. Why did it have to be like this? Why was she the only one with this gift of incredible hearing? She didn't know, and she doubted she ever would. So she quieted her desperation, discarded her emotions, and plunged her world into silence. Bloodsong looked down numbly at her decaying homeland, and let the sounds of the Wyrmwound consume her.

______ Everything changed after that day. No longer fighting back, Bloodsong found herself spiraling uncontrollably into the void of Plague - losing more and more of her existence as she struggled to free herself. But no matter how hard she tried, the melody of despair only grew louder and louder until it escalated to a deafening screech. It was only then that she realized her salvation was impossible. So instead of struggling, she began to listen. And this time, she heard something different.

______ Instead of the senseless pandemonium of rot and decay, she heard a symphony. It started off quietly - a soft beat pulsing through the chaos - but as she continued to listen, suble nuances began to break through the repetitive tune. The melody ebbed and swelled, and finally she heard it for what it truly was - a song of unparalleled beauty, relaying stories of plauge that had been passed down for generations. Bloodsong stood in awe and listened to the song that only she could hear. She felt something intangible shift inside of her, and only when she looked down did she realize she was crying.

______ Now, instead of running, Bloodsong surrounds herself in the calamity that she calls home. She found a place to call her own - the Glitter Lighthouse clan - and was surprised to notice that her younger clanmates venerated her as a gifted and wise elder. For the first time since she could remember, she was happy. However, she refused to submit herself to true contentment until she had found someone else capable of hearing the indescribable melody that had changed her life. After years of searching, she finally found them - albeit in the most unexpected way.

______ CrimsonGrin was the most unusual dragon she had ever encountered. It was unthinkable that a lone dragon could ever survive on their own, especially in the most dangerous segment of the plague territory. Bloodsong could hardly imagine how CrimsonGrin had pulled it off. Even with the help of the two familiars that had followed him throughout his endeavors, the feat seemed impossible. However, as she got to know them, she learned that CrimsonGrin embodied that very word. Impossible. She rolled the word off her mute tongue, considered it for a long time. And after hours of deliberation, she realized that it wasn't so impossible after all.

______ After years of loneliness, Bloodsong had finally found what she had been looking for. She was filled with joy and fulfilment, and immediately invited CrimsonGrin and his familiars to reside with her in the Lighthouse clan. At first, they were hesitant. But after one of CrimsonGrin's companions - a fawn fox rat who had grown close to Bloodsong - offered herself up to the female skydancer, CrimsonGrin knew that he couldn't refuse. His own familiar, a frostbite hummingbird, had been with the fawn fox rat since he had found them together, and it would be cruel to split them up. Reluctantly, he agreed to join, and they'd been together ever since. Now, they spend their evenings in relentless conversation - trying to put into words the beautiful song that they had both heard. Their two familiars continue to demonstrate undying loyalty, and their clanmates respect them with unprecedented awe. Bloodsong is content. She has everything she's ever wanted, and the song in her heart grows stronger with each passing day. Impossible? Maybe not.

______ Together the pair decided a move might be fitting. They moved to the Light Glow clan, settling down into their new home, they were welcomed by friendly dragons, a new home, just as good as their last. As long as they were together they would be content.
