Ugh, another day in the factory. The pearlcatcher had lived almost his entire life in this miserable compound, brewing, testing, and delivering the potions to the neighboring factories. He can barely make out the form of his mother in his memories; he was allowed to live with her until he was able to work on his own. As a hatchling, he was stolen from his clan and the perfect life he might have known and dragged, kicking and screaming, to the factory. However, he intended on breaking out. See, the dragons at the factory didn't have names, just numbers. Don't want to give them a sense of identity, do you? Even the pearlcatchers' most prized item, their pearls, were taken from them. They might get ideas, ideas about how wrong this place is. But the workers had always known. This pearlcatcher seemed to know the most, and during the sleeping time, the others would rally around him and refer to him as "Revolution," a word they all remember from their childhood. Night after night, hiding from the guards, they would plot about how to escape. No one wanted to see another bottle of those horrid potions again. The "Elixir of Youth" was a potion that the guards had thought up long ago and realized they could make a fortune from it if they could produce it. If a dragon drank it, all of their ailments would be healed and their body would be rejuvenated. The only problem was that they had no idea how to make it. The first victims of the factory were scientists who created the formula. But, this formula required soul. Real soul from another dragon. The real work had begun. All of the workers had had parts of their soul taken away during their tests to be sold to rich, petty dragons. This process changed the dragons' scales from the toxins injected to remove the soul. Some of the older dragons had faded away into practically machines since their souls had been completely removed. Revolution wouldn't be able to save them, but he hoped to save the rest before it was too late. |
