Struggling to his feet, the Imperial coughed the water from his lungs. His back ached and his vision was blurry. Behind him, the tide receeded back into the Tsunami Flats. It seemed to him like the Tidelord had spat him out on the shore. Whether it was an act of compassion from the mysterious deity, or an announcement of Kaito's exile. Either way, he wasn't going back. Although his vision hadn't cleared and each step sent shooting branches of pain down his spine and flank, Kaito trudged forward in a straight line. Kaito could feel that he was in a hot, dry place. The smell of smoke and heated metal told him that he had washed up on the shore of the Ashfall Wastes. Indeed, the further he stumbled along the more the glow and radiant heat from the exposed magma began to grate on his nerves. His vision wasn't clearing, his pain wasn't fading, and the ashy soil beneath his claws was difficult to keep a foothold in. A sudden eruption of steam from a nearby vent sent him toppling to the ground. The last thing he heard before the pain drove him to a blackout was a gravely voice calling out for assistance.

The incessant clang of metal on metal. The choking stench of smog and ash. The rush of hot air over his wings. Kaito was reluctant to open his eyes. When he finally mustered up the courage to do so, he was greeted only by a blur of colors and lights. His vision had not returned. He doubted it ever would. "Good morning." The voice startled Kaito, and he craned his neck over his shoulder to search for the source. "Who are you?" His throat was dry and scratchy. His voice came out in a coarse growl. "My name is Amsixis. I am- Well, that introduction can wait. How are you feeling?" "Hot. Dry." "I imagine so." Amsixis chuckled. "Lucky Terediri spotted you when she did. Any longer and you might have been cooked." "Where exactly am I?" Kaito tried to stand, but found that his body wouldn't obey him. He tried to focus his eyes on Amsixis, panic rising in his throat. "Am I paralyzed?" "No, not quite. Once you wake up a bit more your brain will catch up to your body. You had some pretty nasty spinal injuries. And as I'm sure you've noticed, your eyes are damaged. Beyond my ability to repair them, I'm afraid. I was, however, able to build some replacement parts for you. You should find your spine, shoulders, haunches, and jaw much less... shattered."
